I was going to say the same thing about perhaps trying a different stimulant once you get the Adderall effects out of your body.

Was told to start wellbutrin xr if I need it, nothing else mentioned.

Why don't you ask if you an try something else?

MetisRebel.... 2 weeks serious depression--where's that statement coming from, your personal experience or general knowledge or trials?  I've never heard that before, nor have I experienced it when I take "holiday" from adderall (not yet at least).

Okay, I can speak here from personal experience. I was taken off of my adderall (not the XR form) because my psychiatrist found out that I was drinking beer again, she says that you are not supposed to drink on adderall at all. So she stopped me COLD TURKEY. I went into a huge depression, felt like I had nothing to live for. The adderall was the only thing motivating me daily to do anything. It helped me to clean, do my gardening, finish all projects etc... It motivated me immensely. I don't know if it really made me depressed though. But it certainly made me edgy with my kids and husband, I hated to be interrupted while doing a project on Adderall. It worked well for me, meaning it gave me the motivation that I lacked to get things done around my house and yard.

But when I was taken off of it, I did get very depressed and low, and slept for days. I have been off of it now about 3 weeks I guess, and I am still a bit depressed, but not nearly as bad as I was the first week, that was horrible.

Right now I am not on anything. It sucks !!

I have been taken off my adderall xr for a while to see how things play out. I started feeling depressed adn my DR wants to see if it is adderall doing this. I am supposed to start Wellbutrin if I need it. I am so down bc adderall worked well, but I have had no movtivation to do anything, I cry all the time. I am just miserable. I don't know what to do. I have taken antidep. in the past and they don't work. Any advice

Adderal is a stimulant. You can expect at least 2 week's serious depression [from withdrawal] if you have been taking it for more than 3 months. [if that doesn't happen you're lucky!] so don't be angry with yourself if you are unmotivated and upset for a bit.

Just so you know you're not crazy--your seretonin levels are fragging and need time to work themselves out. The adderal may have contributed.

Have you ever taken wellbutrin before?

Hey!

You didn't mention how long you've been off of it...you see, your Dr. is trying to find out why you are depressed, thinking it may be something besides add.  In any case, it's always good to take a drug holiday.  But the bottom line is that it is YOUR body and not your doctor's.  If you felt better on the adderral, you should make sure he abides.

...but that's just little ole' me...

That comes from my experience with drug users [I worked in the field] who use stimulants. That also comes from my working in detox experience which includes both legal and illicit substances.

Stimulants cause "crashing" for some people. If they are prone to "crashing" and have been absorbing stimulants then it takes about two weeks for the worst of the "crashing" depression to wear off.

As I said before--some people get NOTHING--no matter what the drug. However, the "worst" that can happen with a stimulant is 2 weeks physical withdrawal.

In the case of ice or crack the depression can last as long as two years since the seretonin levels are seriously awry.

Generally one week is about average for those people who do suffer withdrawal from amphetamines. Not everyone gets withdrawal--even with harder drugs such as heroin.

However, for the woman who was suffering, she may be having a physical reaction to no longer having the drug for a short period of time.

After several months on Adderall xr my daughter got very down and weepy. We also had to take her off. What about other stimulants? Any of the methyphedinates?
