Would you ever go to a NEW doctor and maybe have a re-evaluation?

With all the meds this doc is putting him on to treat "things" that are showing up due to the meds not working is just crazy

Either the meds are not the right ones for him or the dosing is wrong, or MAYBE he has another co-existing condition?

Could your pediatrician refer you to a psychopharmacologist? With all the meds your son is on, he really should be seeing a specialist who specialty is psychiatric medications. They will write your prescriptions, ours is a pschiatrist also, not sure if all are, they maybe. Then you have the doctor for therapy if needed!

I have posted on here before. Short sweet story my son and have yet to find a med that works. He ahs seen like 3 shrinks now. We have gov ins for him and the org doc went on meternity leave. Even she said with the focalin and ritalin he was on she didnt know what else to do if that didnt work. That when he reaches school that we would have to start doing soem testing. I was unhappy with that so I was happy to know that he would see a new doc. Then the new doc he started seeing said the focalin was working we just need to treat the hyperactivity which I thought wasa good idea. Then he gave him clonidine which made him aggresive. Then when that happened he said ok try this risperdall. Which was to treat the aggressiont that my child enver had.

Well we had another appt last night and I did not know that it was going to be with a different doctor. Well this one made me cry. My schedule is I wake up and my son is up by about 5:30 am he goes to bed at 8 every night. He does not take naps because well he is not a crabby kid. He is almost 6. The doctor told me is out bursts were from the lack of sleep. and the lack of attention. So the doctor told me I need to eitehr quit my job or make him go to bed at 6 pm from now on. I told the doc that makes no sense to me. Then he wanted to reduce the amount of focalin he is on. Beucase on the weekends my son is almost lieka  zombie. I mean he will want to play and stuff but you can just see it in his eyes hes like zonked out. So he wanted to reduce it to 10 or even 5. I m like then he will really beout of control then. Why cant you give him a lower dose on the weekend. The doc didnt know anything about the med. He refused to try something new. All the docs refuse to change it and try something new. My sources are limited because of the insurance we have. I am so upset and unahppy with the things that have been going.

It sounds to me like you are right, the meds are not right for him. I ahte to say it, but maybe you have to keep trying doctors. Who is prescribing and evaluating? Is it a psychiatrist?

Quite often you do need to treat side effects, like sleep issues, aggression....etc., etc. 

I agree with bethanne, You need a new doc. I just switched my doc from a neurologist to psychiatrist and WOW what a difference.  The new doc knows her stuff and we now have several options to try if our current med tanks.  Good luck
