Hi
My son is on avanza the Australian name for Remeron. We have found it wonderful - presently on 7.5 mg. It makes him sleepy about 2 hours after taking it and then he goes into a 11 sleep. Previously he would be awake until 2 in the morning just tossing and turning. During this time he has also put on weight - in fact 1 1/2 stone in 4 weeks. This is okay because he was just incredibly thin. We have noticed that this after dinner appetite has subsided a little now.
Any updates on this med?
Will was prescribed this today and I am just not so sure I want to give him an antidepressant.
He was having trouble falling asleep but I think that giving him a second dose of his Focalin earlier in the day (at school) should help his sleep issues and keep him on task in the afternoons before school is out.
I just hate trying new meds..
My daughter took Remeron a few years ago and did fine on it. No side effects. Mind you, she gets side effects from almost everything, but no problems with that med.Oh, ok. That makes sense.
I think I'm going to give the new dosage and times a try for a week or two and see if the sleep issues go away. He never had this problem before. It wasn't a problem in the summer, but this is the 4th week of school. He should have adjusted by now.
I just really don't want to start him on another medicine. And the thought of giving him an antidepressant really bothers me.
May I ask why you stopped taking it then?
sure, we stopped stimulants at the time so there was no need for something to help with sleep.does any one's child take this?my son was on tenex 2x a day and adderall xr 15,well we went to a new psych today and he changed him to remeron 15 at bedtime no tenex,he said it will help with sleep and to get him to eat more,he just turned 8 and he weighs 46 lbs.i am sorry to hear that i have never heard of this med is it a new one? my son has taking dex, ritilain 10, ritilain la and now he is starting on concerta in about 3 weeks maybe the best thing might be searching for the name of the med in the forums and see what it comes up with good luck let me know how it goes i would be interested to know how it works as well... as my son is going threw meds like they are running out of them (in that i mean they aren't really working on him, not that he is addicted) lol that may of seemed weird sorry, but seriously i think just look up the med in the forum search board good luck.. wish you the bestno from what i see it isn't new,my son also has been on just about every adhd meds that are made,it is very frustrating.
Remeron is a mild antidepressant that has a side effect of weight gain.

sorry that was a very late post took me a while to write it i am also trying to write a letter to my partners employer saying that his going to quit (giving them 3 weeks notice) but i can't seem to get the words write or it just doesnt sound right... u know i am starting to think that maybe my son had no hope trying to get past the ADD/ADHD thing his father has it and i am starting to think its why i failed miserably at school and never succeded at anything (mind the spelling its very late here i can't sleep its like 4.36am here)We took Remeron for about a year several years ago. It did help us with sleep, and a little bit with appetite. My daughter did fine on it.
