Dd age 6 has been on Focalin for several weeks now. She does well till late afternoon. It took us awhile to even get there. As we added her increased dosages it was difficult to figure out when to give the extra.
Finally we decided on 20mg in the AM. But we are still having issues in the afternoon. Her dr. wants to add in Strattera 20mg now in the AM.
Honistly no changes have been seen.
Yet...
I am concerned about 2 different drugs.
Any experience?
Why start another med, or even add one if the one she is taking is working well?Is it a psych or a ped?
I would question this and why the Strattera is being started at such a high dose. It has to be ramped slowly from 10mgs up to the target dose. Target dose being 1.2-1.8 mgs per kilo of body weight. Starting too high can and will cause mood swings, side effects and other unwanted problems.
This info is readily available at Strattera.com, and you may need to print out the prescribing info for your Psych.
I am wondering why and short acting afternoon dose is not being added instead. If al is ok until it wears off she just may need another dose in the afternoon.
