My daughter recently started the Daytrana patch and besides not being able to sleep I have noticed a difference in her temper. She gets angry very fast now and is having very big melt downs went not getting her way. Has anyone else experienced similar side effects? We are not really seeing a benefit yet.
Concerned parents
It is posible that the stimulant is increasing anxiety. This could go away once she is used to the med, or not.
Another posiblity is a hypoglycemic response from not eating. Make sure she is having meals, and snacks to keep her blood sugar up (high protein, low carb).
Everyone responds differently to the different meds and some trial is required to find the best med and schedule for an individual. Good luck on this journey.
I'm not sure how long she has been on it or if you've tried anything other meds, but rarely does the first med attempt work at the first dose. Vickie's right you may just need an adjustment time, or you may need an increase or you may need to swicth meds. You should go into the other Daytrana Patch boards there a quite a few mentions of moods in there. My son has been on it for 3 months now and he was very grumpy during the first week. He still remains a bit grumpy on it but often it's more that he's just quiet and we are not used to that. If we ask him if he's O.K. he says yes. He's not chatty in the car anymore and that's a big switch. But the only time he really gets angry now is about two hours after it comes off I think it's a rebound affect. That too has lessened though and he might just cry a bit and then be fine not as angry. He used to have a very bad temper and if we put the patch on late on the weekends he can be pretty mean. It does take time to balance out we also noticed that his stomach hurt a lot more in the beginning. One thing I notice now is that the whites of his eyes get a bit red from it by the end of the day but he doesn't complain about them hurting or anything. I plan to ask his doctor about it next visit.
