It's called avanza  - Mirtazapine here but I'm not sure what it is in the states.     Actually it's an antidepressent but he's only having the smallest amount.   He's taking 7.5mg and if this makes his dopey the next day, I will decrease it again by half.  It's such a tiny tablet!!!

At the same time we increased his zoloft by 12.5 mg to help combat the anxiety. This has always made him really layback and silly before so we'll see.

He's eating huge amounts of food as the avanza makes them hungry -  you can actually see the weight going on!!!!  This has been good because he's so under weight.

So far so good.  School finishes in a few days and we have to reassess whether he will return to this school.  So many variables in the mix with these kids!!!

My daughter took Remeron for a while, same med. It did make her really tired. That's what we used it for, helping to sleep.Yay!!! Sleep helps everyone! What is the medication?

After the last few weeks of hell, we have peace.  Our 14 year old has had a shocking time and has taken it out on us.  In desperation I gave him "avanza" (not sure what it's called in the states) and it put him to sleep within 2 hours.  Slumber for 11 hours!!  He was still angry when he woke up but had settled.  So off to school.  Leaving me totally exhausted!!!

So as my husband was out of town for the weekend, I continued using it for the sole purpose of getting him to sleep before midnight.  In fact he was tucked into bed before 9 most nights.  I got a bit excited and gave it to him a little early tonight and he was really fighting it!!

Today he said he felt in control at school - his opinion is often very different to that of his teachers though!!!  The anxiety has greatly reduced and he seems far more focused.

Anyway this little sliver of a tablet is enough to get him to sleep.  We tried it for a few months a few years ago and he became really sedated after a while.   Will have to see.

So maybe his biggest problem was sleep deprivation - when you only get 5-6 hours sleep a night for months on end it has to have an effect and I think his anxiety was exactly this.  We see the psychiatrist on Thursday.   Isn't if amazing that 4 days ago I was a mess - I had no answers and was feeling so incredibly lost.  Now I have a new path to follow. Living with this is like being in a giant maze!!!!

Let's see how plan 567 goes!!!!  Fingers crossed!!
