anyone on Strattera | ADHD Information

I'm on it but I wasn't on stimulants first.

It doesn't work the same way so I wouldn't expect it to--just so you know.

After reading from ADHD'ers I find that it seems to work better on people who aren't used to stimulants--perhaps because we don't have the same expectations?

I disagree with that statement (well.. only speaking for myself of course) but I was never on any Stimulant when I was first diagnosed and really wasn't sure what to expect when I started on my first ADHD med.. which happened to be Strattera. Strattera did not work for me. But, I did give it a fair shot.

Now.. I must say that when I first tried adding a stimulant along with Strattera.. it helped more and when I stopped taking Strattera and went to Focalin XR it was like the fog lifted for the first time. Strattera just wasn't right for me. It does work wonders for some. From what my Psychiatrist said, was that it works better on inattentive types of ADHD.  I'm not inattentive type, I'm ADHD with Hyperactivity.

You will not know how well it works for you until you're completely weaned off of the Stimulants. Strattera as you've probably read takes time to build up in your system and does not reach the full potential for 6-12 weeks once you're at your Target dose. Then, when you stop taking the stimulants you'll see how Strattera works alone. So it'll take quite some time to figure that out. I have seen several people that take both Strattera (lose doses) with a low dose Stimulant and it works great for them.

Good luck!

Anyone on Strattera? I just got on Strattera but im still staying on adderall XR untill future notice. my doc said if strattera works better for me he might take me off adderall XR. I'm actually taken the strattera at night time to see how i do

Like you Shawn, I have the hyperactivity.

So I don't know whether strat will work long term or not.

As I've said before, it helped get rid of the morning blues [sometimes side effects are nice ones] but it isn't doing anything at this point for the adhd stuff.

I still can't read more than 500 words or so, can't watch a movie without fidgeting and walking around, that sort of thing. I'll wait for the 6 weeks and if it hasn't improved at higher doses I will either have to accept it as a decent antidepressant [since most of them have horrid effects on me] and live with the adhd--or give it up as useless...

*sigh*
My son is on 40 mg Straterra and 20mg Daytrana. We're building up the straterra also and waiting for the doc to say when to stop the Daytrana. DS hasn't had any side effects from the straterra from what I can tell - might be wishful thinking, but I've told the doctor he seems to have more patience and be more "lovey" like he used to. He also takes the straterra at night because dh is so forgetful to give it to him in the morning and also make sure he eats breakfast first.
