Med trouble | ADHD Information
My son's neurologist recently prescribed Lexapro (anti-depressant) 10 mg in
an attempt to counter act the side effect of lethargy his concerta was having
on him. Within 2 weeks of starting Lexapro we noticed a change for the
worse in my son. Way more defiant and full of hate and anger. The only
new thing in his life was the Lexapro. Out of desperation we stopped the
Lexapro. We don't know for sure if that's what was causing this behavior
and figured the only way we could find out would be to eliminate the new
med. He definitely seemed to have more energy with the Lexapro but his
aggression was out of control. Has any body had a similar experience?

I have no experience with Lexapro, but my ds did get very aggressive when he was on too high a dose of Concerta. If the Concerta is making him lethargic, perhaps it is too high a dose, or not the right med?
We stopped Concerta, and now ds is on Metadate CD with an afternoon boost of Ritalin, and is doing great. He has much more personality than he did with Concerta and Focalin, but is still controlling his hyperactivity and his impulsiveness.
I would inquire about a different meds combo. Did you contact the dr. about the behavior change?
We've tried Adderal and Strattera. The Adderal had the same effect as the
Concerta and there was no behavior control with the Strattera. We've got an
appointment a psychiatrist on July 2. Maybe he'll have some suggestions.
The pediatrician doesn't have a clue and we were less than satisfied with the
neurologist.
Keep trying there are so many meds out there. Ask about Ritalin LA. My daughter did much better on this than Concerta. It is a 10 hour med so you do get a good amount of the day out of it too. Diane V39254.5585763889
