How many meds has your child tried? | ADHD Information

Oh boy!

WE've taken Concerta (twice), Straterra, Adderrall with Remeron, Focalin,  Ritilan, Nortryptiline, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, Ritilan LA, Guanfacine all different doses, and now we're on Desipramine, still working out the dose, but hink we're getting there! So hang in there are so many options! As evweryone says though it'll be worth it once you get there. It is SO frustrating.

I know how hard it can be to find the right medicine. I'm 17 and started
taking medicine when I was 11. I tried concerta, ritilan, ritalin LA, adderal,
straterra, focalin, focalin XR and Wellbutirin. I also tried different doses of
those. For the past two years I have been taking 20mg of Focalin XR. The
ones that worked the best are Focalin XR and Concerta. I just settled on
Focalin XR because it is so hard to tell which ones work best. It helps but
makes me quite and fell wierd, kind of zombieish. It also makes my
stomach fell weird.

Yes it is difficult to find the right med. My ds is 12. He has been on regular ritalin, dexedrine, ritalin SR and most recently tried a trial of concerta. Ritalin SR works the best for him.

I also use omegas, a cal/mag supplement and Carcinocin for ds. He isn't on his ritalin Sr during the summer.

lovemyboy39259.4865856481My 6 year old daughter started out with Strattera, then Metadate CD, then on to Short acting Ritalin. She's not taking the Ritalin during summer break. Come this fall we may be either upping the dose or changing to try a different long acting med.

It is a frustrating journey.
DD has used Concerta, Metadate CD, Straterra, Daytrana, Guanfacine( never again) and is now med free for the summer. We also use Omega's and Feingold diet. When school starts she will most likely go back on meds, but for now she is Ok without.

We've tried Adderall, Focalin (twice), Ritalin, Daytrana, Metadate, Clonindine, and now we're on Concerta.

I am wondering how many your child tried before you found that magical right med and doseage. I feel so exhausted and wonder if this will ever end. My nearly 8 yr old DD has only been on Adderall XR but a few different doseages before we realized the whole med was a no-go. Now we are on Daytrana, and it seemed like this would be the wondrous one and in the beginning it worked so well but it feels like lately only 1 month into it its not working at all. She is only on 15 mg and I am wondering if we need to go higher w/ the doseage. I am just tired and ready to be done with this whole med thing.

I have tried having her go off the meds to see how it would be and it is just an absolute nightmare, she is like a flea on a hot griddle, all over the place and just cannot control herself no matter what or be still for more than, oh, two seconds. We are going out every day and trying to do lots of physical activity to keep her engaged this summer but its getting embarrasing to be out b/c her meds just dont seem to be working at all. People stare at us when she squeaks/squeals and constantly jumps up and down or has her hands on everything. I now I shouldnt be embarrassed but I cant help it and I worry she senses that.

Sorry this is so long.

It sounds like the med needs to be increased to find the effective dose. Once you get to that dose, she should be able to stay at that dose for a long time.

Finding the right dose of medication is like running a marathon!!!  Make sure to keep good records of reactions at different doses as this is the key to the strength required as well as if this medication works.

Wow..

This thread is interesting.   I'm just beginning our journey and wondered how many meds to others have to try to find the right one or the magical dose. LOL.

We're going on #3, in over a month now.  Started with short acting Ritalin, then short acting Adderall, next will be Vyvanse.  I hope 3 is the lucky number.

Dd is 6 years old and in 1st grade.

AMom2Two39370.6307407407Just to update... we did change my daughter to Concerta 18mg in August and it's been the best so far. I just wish she didn't have her meltdown fests when it wears off. (Not any worse than she is w/o meds though).
