Hi, I just want to tell you what my dd has been up to the last 6 days. We have a plum tree in our back yard that yielded a ton of plums. My daughter wanted to sell the plums.... but.. last year the police in our fine town were closing down lemonade stands because the children didn't have a CA lic. to sell!!!
So we decided to give the plums away for free!!! Each day (after summer school) she and I go out and pick the plums and she sets out a little table and a tip jar. She holds a sign and yells "free plums". She has given away over 1100 plums and has made over 5!!! in tips.
She has so much energy that we are out there for 4 hours at a time. She holds the sign up high and gives her huge smile and the cars stop. She is having so much fun doing this... she was so happy her school principal has stopped by twice and well as the Fed Ex guy and the UPS woman. She loves to talk to the people that stop and ask them how many plums would they like, she even brought out a bowl of water to wash the plums before she hands them to her customers...
She can't wait until the peach tree is ready.... the really neat thing about this is the neighbors that have come to get the plums have traded with her, she has gotten cherries, figs and a homemade jar of plum jam made with our plums.
I hope everyone has a great summer.
This is too cool! That sounds like a lot of fun and a great activity as well as learning a little marketing skills. I noticed you wrote CA. Are you in California? Reason I ask is because my son wants to run a lemonade stand in the next couple of weeks. How odd kids need a 'business' license to sell lemonade and/or fruit
. I didn't know that.
5 That's a hefty profit.
That sounds like so much fun! Are fruit trees hard to care for? I've always kind of wanted something yummy growing in my yard. This is awesome! What a great outlet for all of her energy!
That sounds so nice.
Oh, my goofy state, also tried to close down a kids lemonade stand for the same reason. If you are from CA I'm your nutty counterpart on the east coast.
Jaderock... this is all from 1 plum tree, all we do is water it. We really have not bothered with it. We moved into this house almost 4 years ago, and then it was a pretty big tree. The funny thing is last year it did not produce a single fruit!!! All I can think of is that last year it rain for the first 5 months of the year... very rare. and this year we had very very little rain.
Sirrap.... yes we are in California.. just south of San Francisco. I am not sure about get the sellers lic., you might want to contact city/town hall to find out.
There was another stand that went up just a block away saying "15 plums for "... and just the fruit and the cup to place your money..the honor system.... people are saying they are stopping because of my daughter.
The money she is making is going into a college fund for her, she gets of the money to do as she wants... with in reason.
So awesome! I wish I wasnt 3,000 miles away I'd come get some plums
.
