Strattera and side effects | ADHD Information
I've been on strattera for 2 months now. I love being able to get dressed on the morning without staring in my closet deciding what to wear, play with the dogs, look for the overdue library books, and generally get sidetracked by everything until the Ritalin kicks in. I love having more focus from morning until night.
But when I upped the dose after the first month, I started to get TERRIBLE heartburn. Or at least I think it does because I'm not a heartburn type.
Has anyone else had this experience?
I can't speak to the sexual side effects. I'm a woman and when I first started it I was a bit on the randy side, which was a good thing. I had nausea, dry mouth, the chills, constipation when I first started on it. But now the side effects are don't happen as often or with the severity that they did BUT I don't think it's as effective as it was.
I've got an appt. to talk about changing meds.
[QUOTE=aquilo]Hello Strattera users.
I have been using the Strattera for 1 week and instantly, within 1 day, I noticed impotence which has me worried. Anyone out there can confirm they had it and it went away with time while using the medication? I also notice I get the 10 chills feeling frequently. That really isn't a problem just a difference. As for what I want from the drug, I haven't noticed any changes quite yet but I am planning on giving it a month. Please let me know if your experiences can help understand what I can expect with the impotence.
Thanks
Hi Aquilo,
My hubby takes Strattera and has experienced a bit of the ED/impotence issues you describe. His doc told him that is one of the side effects that is not likely to go away with time. However, he gave him some samples of Cialis and those work great. Strattera does work pretty well for him, but we don't know whether shelling out big bucks for Cialis to counter the effects from Strattera is worth it. Time will tell.
Good luck!

WEIRD SIDE EFFECT
STRATTERA ALERT
Now I don't know if anyone else had this happen.
I do not normally eat any bread from the store because I have a bit of arthritis in my neck and I found that yeast breads aggravate the condition.
However, I DID eat a sausage on a bun last week and had the WORST heartburn on strattera I have experienced in my whole life--and I've had ulcers before.
Then yesterday because my dinner guest had an upset tummy I made a cream soup and bought some French bread for him. Well, I woke up with heartburn in the middle of the night so bad I thought I was having a heart attack!
Has anyone else had problems with yeast and strattera besides me?
Hey- I was on it for a couple of months, and had problems with side effects. Don't know anything about that one in particular, but it killed my appetite to the point that I lost 15lbs. in 3 weeks. It also made me severely constipated, to the point where I hadn't gone for 2 weeks.
I decided I just couldn't live with the side effects and was getting very little benefit. I might have seen more benefit at a higher dose, but I'm also on Wellbutrin and because of a potential interaction my doc didn't want to try more. I also didn't want to mess with the wellbutrin cause that's been working great for me.
You should talk to your doctor- I can't imagine that's a side effect you want to live with for more than a week or so.

I'm on strattera and I had the opposite [I'm a woman] experience with sexual function. It takes longer but it's a big whammy.
Chills are common in the beginning. After a month they only happen about once a day or so. In the hot weather they're better than air conditioning

The first week on strat really, really bites. The second week kinda bites. The third week is pretty okay. I'm on week 4 and jacking up the dosage and it comes and goes.
I think it's a drug that requires some patience. Some of the effects were very cool like feeling a little less depressed yet not losing any emotional lability. With anti-depressants I have horrid, horrid attentional side effects, hallucinations, nausea BLECH.
I'd say stick with it for a minimum of a month and don't jack up the dose until the side effects are practically nil. See if that helps.
Good luck!
