side effect of med increase? | ADHD Information

My son has recently gone form 5 mg to 10 mg of Focalin XR.  He has been on the 5mg for 2 years and never had a single side effect.  Now I am noticing he is extremely emotional.  He is crying all the time.  I have never heard of this but I am beginning to wonder if the new med is the cause.  Has anyone had any experience with this?Where the meds working at the 5mg dose? Why were they changed? I agree, call the psych.

Is the crying during the time the med is in his system or is it when the med is wearing off (rebound). My kids' doc told me that focalin can be harsher and cause rebound more often than methylphenidate meds.

You might call the doc and see if you can give 15mg a try. My youngest is on the 15mg and my oldest on 20mg.

I agree about calling the doctor. After many med changes over several years if something new crops up so recently after a med change, it is usually related. It may be time to try something different.

How long has he been on the increased dose?  I'd give it a couple of weeks and see if the emotionality goes away.  This could be an issue of the body needing time to adjust.
