Medication Vacation | ADHD Information
Are anyone's kids taking a medication holiday over the summer? I hear this is common. We are doing this because the medication really affects Becky's weight. This way she gets a chance to gain some weight over summer vacation. What are your thoughts on doing this? Has anyone run into problems? My daughter is currently taking Metadate CD 20 mg. once daily.
Hi, I'm 17 and I only take medicine on school days and on sunday if I have a
lot of homework backed up. I do notice that my side effects like a stomach
ache are worse in the begining of the week, especially the first day I take it
after not taking it for a day or two. I put up with that because I hate the way
I feel on medicine so taking it everyday would make me miserable. I love not
taking medicine in the summer. It makes everything much more simple and I
think is a great idea for kids. You might want to give her, her medicine a few
days before she starts school so she can get used to it again. Like edbson's
daughter I just take medicine to help with innattention so I don't need it if
I'm not doing anything academic. I hope the medication holiday works good
for you both of you.My son is taking a break from stims and I have started Tenex. He is loving it and I have to say I think his behavior is good enough he may be able to stay with this. He too needs to gain some weight and has already put on 5 lbs!.
Mine is, she uses Daytrana 20mg during the school year only for ADHD/Inn. My reasons are not for weight gain, or anything else. She doesn't need it during the summer( or school holidays) so we don't give it.We are taking a break from the stimulant for my youngest. She is covered by the tenex (guanfacine) and risperdal. The focalin is mainly for school. She needs to gain weight during the summer as well.
