Does Adderall XR work for everyone? | ADHD Information

Share
I was currently diagnosed with ADD a few months ago. My father was also diagnosed about a year ago and has been taking 30mg of adderall xr once a day and says it was a huge differance for him. I was started off at 5mg and every three days I was recommended to add 5mg onto it until I felt a change. I am now up to 45mg once a day and honestly don't feel anything at all. I was told if I dont feel anything by 50mg to give her a call. Just confuses me and frustrates me to see that most people are on 5-20mg once a day and have great results and I am on the 45mg and do not feel any effects or change. The only time I might feel something is when I change doses for the first day, I feel somewhat of a rush if you were to compare it to something and I only feel it for about an hour and then I am fine after that. The second and third day of the new dose I am perfectly normal and never feel it kicking in or wearing off.

Everywhere I look I don't find to many people taking more then 30mg, but then I have my doctor telling me that she has allot of people taking 60mg and has even given a patient 100mg one time. I just would imagine I would be atleast feeling something by now. I have even heard about everyone saying that when you are on the medication, it is quite hard to get to sleep, I have taken 45mg at noon and can easily take a nap by 4pm if I wanted.

My question is, are there allot of people that Adderall doesn't work for?Adderall XR didn't work for me at all.  In fact, it turned me into slow motion.  Sleeping on it was impossible, and I can usually fall asleep with anything in my system.  I only took 20mgs in the morning for 3 days, and then I stopped.  Instant release works much better for me, but it has a lot of hills and valleys.I will stick it out like you had said to the 50 maybe even increase it to 60mg, just seems like a pretty high dose to me, but maybe it is not. I have heard of the medication wearing off as teh years progress and I would hate to be on a high dose such as 60mg and then have to keep increasing it.

What other medications would you suggest trying if this Adderall XR doesn't work for me?. Not sure which are the top leading brands.alright. thanks for everyones help. Nothing works for everyone. When I was a kid, I used to fall asleep on dexedrine [the old adderal]. Yet oddly enough as an adult I am doing fairly well after years of no medication, on the one that rarely works--strattera.

Try what your doc says. If that doesn't work, something else, might.

There are so many choices. I would talk to your doctor. Anything in the methyphedinate family (there are quite a few like Ritilan), as metisrebel states Straterra as a non stimulant, there is also a new medication just coming out Vyvanse, plus all kinds of 2nd and 3rd line treatments like tricyclic antidepressants and SSRI's, there are quite a few different methods of treatment.

Good luck. as we keep stating there is no one treatment or one dose of medication that works better, it is very individual.

Nothing works for everyone. Stick it out and once you hit the 50 ask about trying something else. There are many, many options out there.
