Adderall XR to regular Adderall | ADHD Information
(54 year old man. Diagnosed Oct 2006) I have been taking Adderall XR 25mg for 3 months and it has been working alright. It lasts about 9 hours, and I have no complaints. I mentioned the length of effectiveness to my psychiatrist last week, and he suggested I try regular Adderall 2X a day instead.
When I left the office, I noticed the prescription was for the regular Adderall, 2X a day, but only at 15mg per pill.
I have 3 days of 25mg capsules left on my XR, so I've got to make a decision to buy a month's worth of the 15mg or give him a call to see if he made a mistake. ($$ is tough right now so a week's experiment would be a real $ drain.)
My question: Has anyone switched from XR to regular and had this reduction in strength? Is this normal? (I called Shire. They were nice but said to call doc.)
25 mg Adderall XR is comparable to 15 mgs regular Adderall. The Adderall XR is 25mgs, yes, but it only releases 2.5mgs at a time( per hour or so) so you are getting 25 mgs over time, not all at once.Thank you for the reply!! My psyc's expertise is children, so I wasn't sure if he was unsure about Adderall and was just being cautious.
Like most adults in this forum, I too have seen an unbelievable change in my outlook on life since being diagnosed and beginning treatment.
Thanks again!
Don't get hooked on the instant release. It's a little more potent than the XR.
