Why was your child taking the phenergan?  Maybe it was controlling some things that melatonin doesn't?Hi, my son has been taking this for about a week as he is having problems sleeping, but, in the last week he has gone from being not too bad at bed time, to a complete melt down......I have taken him off the melatonin and put him back onto phenergan, and he has calmed down, and gone back to being quite pleasent at bed time....has anyone else had similar experiences?  is this a possible side effect of the melatonin or is it just a strange co-incidence? Hi
he was taking it to help him sleep, they both have sedative qualites, but in different ways, one is based on antihistamine, which can make you drowsy, the other acts on the brain, stimulating the sleep hormone.
What ever the difference though, he is certainly more manageble on the antihistamine based sleeping tablet....its aloso used for travel sickness.
