yea im the same way
if i keep myself totally focused on that one single most important task.
i still may or may not do it if im aimless.
its what made me realize my adhd was bigger than anything else in my life.
at 38 , and after being made to listen to motivation tapes since i was twelve and inheriting those tapes when my dad died i knew what really works with
the motivation , goals , positive thinking , confidence. well works with me any way.
a daily routine with a note pad of writing down ten things a day that i need to do i do this at lunch time
then later reviewing and transfering these 10 tasks to a bigger catagorized list of alllists i already made previously .
i did that for six months i have to say it was the best time of my lifeas far as cleanliness and confidence.
i had so much confidence because many things were being completed.
see its not my idea and i think i heard from zig zigglar.
gotta know where you are to go in the right direction.
gotta know where you want to go to know what direction to go.
were adhd and impulsive and sometimes random and hap hazzard.
now this part is from me
i force myself to take 1 hour in evening with an alarm running
to work on anything on from those lists .
ok very simple but for that six months that this worked it got all kinds of flack from non adhds but it was only just a little blank scrap tear away note pad
something i could stick in my wallet . and a spiral letter sized note book that helps keep all the lists so i get the tasks and somewhat prioritised . legal, $ ,freinds , cleaning , work , tasks . calendar dates
i quit because i just got bored with it, and i started journaling.
but i have returned to doing it a few times when my life was in crisis
ten years later computers started emerging in most homes and in 2000 i moved from webtv to a compaq windows 98.
i searched for organizing soft ware tried about 10 that i bought.
another 90 from freeware sites.
i finally find a combination that actually over compensates for my lack of priority in achieving direction and motivation to complete goals .
but it took much of time AND i treated the time it took to put it all in order like an obsession and for me when my obsessions fade so does my vigor to stay on task.
so after youve read all my goobledy gooke let me put what im sharing with you in perspective
the time involved is the same amount of time you would do theses thing anyway.
10 bucks is all you need to start from scratch.
so
at breafast while eating review your spiral note book for goals and tasks.
at lunch reinvent a new list of ten things you need to do from the top of your head even if you already wrote some things on previous lists. its ok to put more than ten
at dinner its time review your priorities and and spend one hour working on things from the spiral note book . and put a small flag next to em like 20min or 1hr , or over this helps pick easy ones to fit in the hour
pick three things
one from todays list of ten
one from the spiral
and one that fits the time you have left in that hour.
most important is you look over your needs and wants in a way that lets you seeyou priorites and some priorities youve forgotten to complete.
this can become a routine that
finds out where you are and where you want to go and how to get there
as a bonus the hour of productivity becomes a confidence builder especially for my brand of adhd small completed successes in a stimulating routine .
in short 10 min while eating breakfast review
10 min while eating lunch reinvent new list
10 min while eating dinner with highlighters to mark priorities and completes
1 hour a day to do things you need to do anyway.
of all the things we try as adhd to find a path with direction and purpose i
challenge anyone who reads this to try this unmedicated coping skill
THE METHOD --- scratch pads, spiral notebook , pens , highlighters
for one solid month. 1st - 31st
see if this keeps you in touch with priorities and hopefully build a little bit of positive esteem !
