Bad temper when adderall wears off... | ADHD Information

Share
I'm on 20 mg adderall xr that i take every morning around 10 or 11 and
it's great. I've always had a bad temper and been REALLY easily annoyed
by repeated sounds or movements (eating, slurping, tapping etc) and on
it i feel so patient like nothing bothers me. I become much more mellow
and happy.

But when it wears off every night around 6, my temper gets so bad that i
can't be around my family (which happened sometimes but less often
when i was on no medication).

I'm at this point right now and i'm in my room angry as anything because
everything people do infuriates me. I don't want to decrease my dose
because since i've always had a temper i know how to cope and adderall
at least gives me an 8-hour stretch that i can be a normal, tolerant
person.

does anyone else experience this? i know in a month or so when school
starts i'll be taking a second IR dose when my first wears off but im not
sure how much. has anyone had any success with this? It's generally referrd to as rebound, and is common with stims., maybe try another med, or dose.Lots of people do take a second dose to get through the whole day. This can also sometimes help with that rebound you are experiencing. If not, edbson is right try something else, you do not need to suffer like that, not does your family. There are lots of options out there, get the best you can. You can always go back to the Adderall if you dont like anything else, knowing what you'll get.Maybe you could try the Adderall Instant Release.  Or sometimes doctors will prescribe a low does of Adderall IR (like 5 mg) in the afternoon to help with the "crash."  I take 40 mg of IR a day.  20 mg  @ 7 a.m., 15 @ lunch and 5 @ 4.  Because at first I was having the same thing....the "come down" was terrible.  I would get tension in my jaw, grind my teeth, my facial tics/grimacing, fast heart rate, sensitive hearing, etc.  Now it is much better!  Also!!  I take my vitamin around 6 p.m. and that has also helped.  Avoid caffiene as well!
