I did a google search on this drug and agree with what joemom said above.Has anyone heard of this new drug?  My son is supposed to start it tomorrow.

All I know is that it is in the same family of drug as Adderall and it has a lower chance for being abused ...I think I read that it breaks down in the intestine...Let us know what you think of

Hi Cindyann,

There is a current thread going on the medications board about Vyvanse:

http://www.adhdnews.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=27710& PN=1

I found this message board when my 9 yr old's psychiatrist switched him from the Daytrana patch to Vyvance to see how it works.  The patch was working extremely well.  He went from failing school to academic achievement almost immediately.  I worried b/c he seemed emotionless in the afternoon.  Nothing excited him, he just kind of stared into space.

On day 1 of Vyvance, I noticed a promising change in his bevahior.  He was compliant and showed emotions like a 9 year old should.  He joined us in the pool for several hours and had a good time without getting mad like he would before he was on any meds.

Today is day 2.  He was excited to take the med again today.  Even he noticed the difference.

Another thing we noticed:  Thunderstorms make him extremely anxious and scared.  He actually wanted to watch the storm out the window.  He said he liked the medicine for that reason.

He also takes Straterra for his anxiety.

Wish us luck on day 2!!!!

ethansmom, good luck! And welcome, this is exciting for you!My 4.5 year old son started vyvanse today...30mg dosage.  He was on Focalin XR for two weeks with not much of a change.  It's still too early for me to tell how the vyvanse is doing.  He was at daycare for most of the day and they said he was zoned and didn't want to do anything.  I'm not seeing it, so far, as being that dramatic.  Since tomorrow is Saturday, I'll get to see for myself from sun up to sun down how its going.
We'll see...
I have a prescription for my 9 year old dd to try vyvanse. She has done well on adderall XR but are hoping this could be better. Keep us posted as to your progress and good luck!!!

My 8 year old son just started Vyvanse 2 days ago.   He is a lot less impulsive, but I do notice that in the mornings (after he has taken it) he talks non stop for about 2 hours.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Before Vyvanse, he was on  Adderal XR, but the rebound effect was so bad, it was almost not even worth taking. I'm hoping this one works for him.

I'm anxious to hear how others are doing on it.

I am actually an adult on Vyvanse. I really like it so far. It's been about 2 weeks. I definitely need a higher dose but the effect is really subtle and I don't crash in the afternoon with this med. It doesn't keep me awake at night and it doesn't make me mean which both Adderall and Dexedrine have caused with me. I've tried all the rest including Focalin XR and the Daytrana patch.
