My trigger with Coke / Cola | ADHD Information

Coke or any drink with caffeine settles me down, caffeine is a stimulant just like ritalin right?       Take heart Philuc2000, what you are experiencing is 'The Ty Cobb Effect'.             Back in September of 1907... 100 years ago, Ty began a relationship with the Coca~Cola company that would last for the rest of his life.  When he died in 1962 he owned 20,000 shares of stock and 3 bottling plants.  Legend has it that the spirit of Ty Cobb, lovingly refered to as the Meanest Man Who Ever Played Baseball, has manifested his spirit into the Coca~Cola, and thus manifesting those who drink it.  Cobb was famous for his method of sliding into basemen feet first, his steel cleets sharpened to a point.  Last week in my town, a kindly old retired librarian, 87 year old Mildred B Badder had finnished drinking a coke several hours before she was to attend a peace seminar.  By 6:23pm that evening she was arrested and locked up withouit bail for the brutal atack that culminated in severe leg injuries to 37 persons who also attended the rally.  A witness to her mad spree described the 87 year old librarian as being 'geeked up to tha max'.  "It was like a 1905 baseball game in the cafateria, that crazy woman who was as wide as she was tall had a look in her eyes like death on a cracker as she would crouch slightly, and with a piercing scream would launch herself into a brisk run, then lift her legs and fly feet first into the crowd, stoping only after her high heels punctured a leg or a buttocks".  When police chief B. Putzinfifer examined the shoes later he described them as resembling a butcher's tenderizing hammer, caked with meat from her victims.  Try switching to RC cola or pepsi.   Good luck

I always find that a drink of Coca-Cola between the games refreshes me to such an extent that I can start the second game feeling as if I had not been exercising at all, in spite of my exertions in the first, provided I don't get stuck to somebody, I can run amuck till the cows come home.

Since I was a child sugar, sweets and fizzy drinks were cut out of my diet by my parents due to my behavorial problems and hyperactivity - I was not diagnosed as having ADHD as a child (over 20 yeas ago) and still haven't been.  I am 31 now and have been living with my girlfriend for 4 years, my diet has obviously changed since leaving home and I can directly relate my anger fits, mood swings and sleepless nights to drinking cola but the effects are not immediate or even 1 or 2 hours after.  If I drink a glass of cola at 2pm I will start getting anger fits around 8 or 9pm the same day and go hyper then become fidgity in bed throughhout the night - I even shout out in anger in bed.

Although i'm always hyper and have all the signs of ADHD, when I drink Cola this seems to double or triple in intensity.  Other soda drinks do not create the same affect -  can drink Tango for example without a problem, also it does not matter what brand of cola it is either or if it is diet, regular or pep*i max.

I thought it might be caffne related but I drink coffee with none of these affects.

Does anyone relate to this or just me?

"Doctor it hurts when raise my arm like THIS..."

"Then don't do that!"

actually, Ritalin and Adderall are not supposed to be mixed with caffeine, it's very silly and possibly dangerous

Got a link for that? I'm a caffeine junkie and I would really appreaciate some more details.

By the way, I find that Sprite really calms me down when I get overly aggitated when on my pills.

Just to follow up

Coke does make me feel better initially, so does coffee but I think it's when i'm having a crash on the coke a number of hours after is when I get v.v.v.irritable.  I am not on any medication btw!

Firstly caffeine is NOT dangerous at beverage levels when taken with our meds.  It may cause anxiety at first if you are beginning treatment (same as any other stim it takes time to adjust).

The only warnings documented as not to take with stim meds is antihistamines with pseudoephedrine, ephedra or other "natural" stims and co-mixing stimulants such as cocaine or other illicit stims.

Caffeine I find supplements my focus.  Many times it's just not feasible to take a second dose of my dexedrine during the workday.  I can however have a nice strong cup of coffee.

Have you considered in fact that what you suffer from isn't actually ADHD but rather the very commonly mistaken glucose sensitivity.  It's like being allergic to sugar.  Many children who exhibit ADHD-like symptoms actually are reacting to sugar or dyes in their diet.  It can be determined with a simple allergy test - usually done with ingestion of potential sensitive items after a period of removing them from your diet.

Coke shouldn't have enough caffeine in it to cause much of a problem if you are taking in only one or two cans at a time.

Diet should always be checked out early in diagnosing ADHD.
i can relate-but i don't know why. i get the same way with cola...and coffee
