I hope there is someone who can help me with a decision. My 7 yr old son is diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety. He has mild PDD-NOS(autistic spectrum disorder). He definitely has multiple issues and he used ritalin for a year but was catatonic with no weight gain. Switched doctors, who is great, given focalin and working well. The doctor said focalin isn't addressing all his needs and feels that his anxiety needs to be treated and wanted me to check out busbar before he prescribed. I've been researching and most sites say this isn't approved for children although some sites have shown children being prescribed the drug. This doctor has prescribed this before for others, but I'm hoping someone can offer input based on experience. Thank you so much
I have a friend who has a son with autism (also 7) and he took Buspar for a while and had no side effects he did fine. They changed his med routine only because he was switched to Aderrall and wasnt sleeping so they are using Clonidine now at night as it is a little more sedating.
Thank you Diane,
I'm still a little worried. Not many people seemed to have tried busbar that are on this board. It concerns me because I can't seem to find great info on this drug. We are seeing the doctor on Wed and will continue Focalin and possibly try the busbar. I did try the search on the boards, but it cancels on me each time. Any ideas because I'm a new mom to ADHD and want to try and do all research possible.
Thank you
I have never been able to get that stupid search button to work.
Buspar is an anti anxiety, so you may have difficulty getting a lot of feedback on this board about it anyway. I know more about it thorugh researching anxiety and from my friend. Her son has autism and they have a lot of sleep issues with him. They were giving him the Buspar at night, but are now using Clonidine. I think it's worth a try. It has a good reputation and isnt like the other anti anxieties like Xanax and that stuff which can be very addictive. If it were me, I'd try it, but you have to make the decision for yourself.
