isnt there some counseling involved
so that its not something youre making him do rather something he needs to do to cope
what does he hate about the meds? How it makes him feel? Or just the fact that he has to take them?
I agree with the counselor, at 12 they need to have some say, or at least feel like they have some say. My daughter has hated LOTS of her meds. Right now she's ok and happy with what she is taking, when she's happy it's easier for the rest of us to be too .
He needs to feel good as well as focus. If he doesnt like the side effects, maybe he needs something different.
Maybe try a different med, or one in different form (Daytrana?). Maybe it is time for a re evaluation, a diagnosis at 5 is young, and could be time for another.
Are they seeing a Psychiatrist or a pediatrician? Sometimes a psych can offer more in the way of counseling and is generally an all around better choice for ADHD management.
edbson39282.808912037If you feel horrible bcz you are giving him meds to treat his condition, then perhaps some family counseling would help or counseling for you also. Otherwise, the kids are going to realize they can manipulate you. Once they get the upper hand, its all over!!!!
