ADDERALL VS VYVANSE | ADHD Information

Share

Day 2... I have to say thank you to everyone for their interest!

To soberxinsanity : When I asked for information on Vyvanse I was advised this has been tested for 10 years and then FDA has approved of this medication. It is alot like adderall and  you should go the the website www.vyvanse.com and write down all you questions before your appointment.

To Grammie : You should also look into this on the website. I had the same problem with the Adderall XR. It appears your son is on a lower dosage. My son has been on Adderall XR for three years and we started at 5mg now we are at 80mg. That is how I came about this new medication.

To citygirl42st : Well his appetite since on medication is all over the place. When we first started the Adderall XR he had no appetite and lost a few pounds when I had spoken to his medication specialist she then put him on Zyprexia 2.5mg to increase his appetite. Which then he had increased 30lbs in a year. We are no longer on Zyprexia... He still has not much of an appetite I have tried to make him shakes and some other good meals but she (his dr.) advised that his appetite may change in a few weeks so we are waiting till then as long as he does not lose weight like crazy just shed a few pounds that he had gain before.

Now onto day 2 I noticed he has shown alot more interest in things as where before he would stay to himself. I have a daughter and she is seven. He has wanted to play with her more as before he would push her away! He would prefer to be alone. So in my opinion so far so good!

Again thank you all in your interest and I will give you more input in a few days.

I often have insomnia without having taken any stims...my mind races nonstop, and I can't quiet it down when I have to. I thought maybe for me, the meds would have the oppisite effect of what it has on most people, and would actually help me sleep, by either claming my mind, or, if the dosage has worn off by bedtime, I will have had a more productive day and will be more restful at night. I actually bought melatonin about two weeks ago to help me fall asleep, but now that I am sleeping 7-8 hours, rather than 10-13, I am again having more trouble waking up in the AM than falling asleep...Anyone have any suggestions about waking up early in the morning (as in, before 10 AM ) I thought about possibly getting up a half hour before I have to just to take the med, then rest for the next half hour until it kicks in and I won't be so graugy getting out of bed. I also heard someone here say that wellbutrin helped them get up in the morning. My doc had mentioned giving that to me a while back, rather than effexor, so I keep mentioning it to him each visit.

I think vyvanse is worth a shot..if necessary, I'll have the melatonin close by.

My dd is on day #4 of Vyvanse. She has been on adderall XR for over three years with good results but she was really building a tolerance to the adderall so after a med vacation for most of the summer we decided to try vyvanse. She is currently taking 30mg and probably needs more but it is definitely causing sleep problems! The adderall has NEVER caused any sleeping difficulties but all the ritalin products that she has tryed did. Could the sleep issues with Vyvanse go away with time? She really probably needs to go up on the vyvanse dose but I am scared that will really keep her up.

We would love to give Vyvanse a good try but I find dealing with the insomnia really hard! On adderall she sleeps GREAT. She goes to sleep away camp in 2 weeks and we certainly don't want insomnia there!

why do they say up to 12 hours, while some people here who have taken vyvanse say it can last 14 hours? a

I have to say we had a good weekend. Exept... He is not able to sleep. He has clonodine 0.01mg he takes three at night and is still no able to sleep. We have an appointment today with a new doctor for a second opinion. He is not eating well and can not sleep. I will keep everyone posted!

On the 30mg vyvanse, my dd is getting some sleep. She probably falls asleep around 11:30 and that is giving it to her between 7:30 and 8:00am which I could back up.  I would like her to go to sleep around 9:30. I do think it helps to start on the lowest dose and increase slowly to avoid side effects. Her dr wants her to stay on the 30 at least a week or two before increasing. I have to say the sleeping issue is not as bad as when she was on Daytrana. It didn't matter what time we took the patch off she could NOT sleep. Isn't it funny that with adderall she sleeps so well. I can even give her a late booster with no sleeping issue. I started wondering if she would sleep if I gave her a small adderall booster. Sounds crazy huh?

I will say on the vyvanse, I think she is a little more talkative and responsive than on the adderall which is a good thing. We will keep working on it. It does sound like the sleep thing is going to be a common problem with vyvanse. Good luck everybody!!!!!!

I'm interested as well.  my son is on Adderall XR and is weepy in the afternoons when it starts to wear off.  Also, it doesn't last all day so he has to take a second, smaller dose in the afternoon.  He doesn't like going to the office at school because then everyone knows!  He takes 10mg in the morning and 5 after lunch.  I understand the Vyvanse is an all day.  Please keep us posted. How do you find the Vyvanse is with appetite? Is your son able to eat and get enough nutrients on it? I know that it a problem with many stimulants. I am very interested! I am planning to ask my doc about this next time I see him, as I want something gentle and long-acting, and so far the concerta hasn't done much. I am afriad, though, that my doc won't be very comfortable prescribing a brand new med...when I asked about what he thinks I should take next, he mentioned adderall..but our convo kept drifting elsewhere and I didn't get anything beyond that.

Today is day 1 on Vyvanse 30mg. As before he was on 80mg Adderall XR. I was advised we need to build up his tolerance in four days he will be at 60mg. So far I have noticed that he is happy and talking alot more. As before he would stay to himself (he didnt want to be bothered). I will keep anyone and everyone who is interested informed!

SftWrmRain39448.0252199074We are considering Vyvanese. Does anyone have any medical specifics about the actual active chemicals in this med and the ramifications of such. I am a little apprehensive about a drug so new to the market.

vyvanse is a more reliable, consistent and superior medication over adderall xr.  the benefits that it offers are endless and there are truely no other adhd medications like it on the market.  from all the data i've read on vyvanse, it indicates in all areas that it will provide longer duration and greater improvement. in adhd symptoms across the board!  adderall xr is a great medication but from all the data posted, vyvanse is just that much better.

My dd has been on addrall Xr for over 3 years. She is currently trying vyvanse to see if it might be better but the jury is still out. We are having pretty good luck with vyvanse but she can be argumentative on the vyvanse. She is not that way on the adderall or unmedicated but the biggest issue with the vyvanse is the insomnia. Adderall never caused her a moment of insomnia. In fact she sleeps well with adderall in her sytem but cannot sleep with vyvanse in her system. Maybe it will go away with time but she goes to sleepaway camp soon and will probably have to switch back to adderall so that she is not awake all night there. I think vyvanse has lots of good things about it but everybody needs sleep so we shall see! a
SftWrmRain39448.0239814815absolutely some people may be more sensitive to long acting formulas, very true and short acting may be best bet...this is because of the way people metabolize the medicine.  if you have a fast metabolism, it is likely long acting will quit too early whereas if you have a very slow metabolism long acting may be too long.  As well as some people are preferential to mph as some are preferential to amph based products.  Once you find that out, which is the trickier part, then you have a good basis to go off on.  I was replying directly to the topic and original question which was that her daughter was on adderall xr and was working fine and wanted to switch (or already has done so) to vyvanse.  these are both amph based products with the main component being the d-amph.  So if the daughter already has a good reaction to adderall xr, data shows that vyvanse will take her to the next level of achievement.  However, as stated, the insomnia is an issue as is with most amph based products but this side effect will decrease over time.  How long has she been on vyvanse...She has been on vyvanse for just over a week so I am hopeful that the insomnia may go away. She has done well on adderall but not so good an any ritalin drugs. The thing is she can sleep while adderall is in her system. I can give her a late booster and she still goes right to sleep but clearly she cannot sleep with vyvanse in her system. From the first day she ever took adderall she has slept great. And it may be that she needs the other amphetamine that is not in vyvanse but is in adderall. Truly vyvanse has the same active ingredient as dexedrine. That ingredient makes up 75% of adderall but adderall has 25% of another type of amphetamine. Maybe some people will need that other type. Vyvanse definitely has some advantages so we will try for a while longer!

Well, my dd has been on the vyvanse for almost 2 weeks and the insomnia is getting better. It's not totally gone but better. Otherwise, we are seeing pretty good results. One thing I have noticed though is that she can get hyperfocused on one thing. She does not do this on adderall. Has anyone else ever seen this hyperfocusing on a stimulant? Does it diminish? It was worse when her dose was lower. Once we bumped her up to 50 mg it got somewhat better. And another thing is that I do think the effectiveness is effected by food. We saw this with adderall Xr too. If she eats a big breakfast too soon after taking her med, it really effects how long the meds last. The duration is much shorter. That goes for Vyvanse as well as Adderall XR.

Overall we do like this med. We may use adderall for sleepaway camp just to make sure we have no sleeping issues and then switch back to Vyvanse for school and see how it goes.

I'd love to hear other's experiences with Vyvanse!

My son was on it for two days. He threw up once, hallucinated all night last night, and has been awake now for 30 hours straight. No exageration. This is our first foray into the world of ADHD meds and I'm not pleased. He was taking lowest dose of 30 mg. Which drugs are non amphetamine and/or non-addictive? We have tried Adderall XR and found that while it was effective for ADHD symptoms, it caused horrible stomach aches. ANGELA&ALEX, I was wondering what ever happened with your son on the vyvanse? My dd is in a similar situation in that she has been on adderall XR for 4 years now. She started at 10mg and is now at 30 mg with an p.m. booster. We really like adderall but her dose is not effective enough anymore. Her dr. would rather not increase her adderall dose. We tried vyvanse briefly and are revisiting it now at a higher dose. I see some benefits from vyvanse but it doesn't last 12 hours for her and she is not as motivated or as focused as on adderall. Hope we figure this out soon!!!!I'm an adult taking Vyvanse, but thought I'd mention that I need to take it twice a day.  I think another woman posted somewhere on the board that she found it lost its effectiveness in the early afternoon, too.  Unfortunately, I'm sure that for some children it is the same.

After my dd being on vyvanse 50mg for a while and completeing her first week of school, I am not sure it is going to do it for her. She is definitely not getting 12 hours out of it. We could really use the 12 hours for after school activities. I think the adderall XR actually lasts longer for her. She will definitely need a booster of something with the vyvanse and probably with the adderall too.  Advantages I see with vyvanse are that she is less anxious and inhibited than on adderall (not as flat) but on the vyvanse she is not as motivated and focused as on adderall. So at this point I am not sure where to go.  She can make really random, off the wall remarks on vyvanse during class and in social situations more so than on adderall. I wonder if upping her dosage to 70mg would help with that and increase the duration?
His medication specialist suggested this. She said she has heard great result's with Vyvanse. It is not so much the Adderall is not working, Since we are in the summer month's we are more laid back not so rush rush with the winter and school.
The patent on Adderall XR is running out soon and Shire who makes both Adderall and Vyvanse is trying to persuade Doctors to switch patients over to Vyvanse to keep it's consumer base. Most Drs are thus pushing Vyvanse as part of this strategy. If Adderall works for you, do not let them talk you into something else. Plus, Adderall XR will soon be super cheap.

My son did not like Adderall and we are going to give Vyvanse a try for that reason. I went to get his script today, and the Pharmacist  told me that it is a tier 3 drug and my copay for it is . Check your formulary and find out. You may be hurting in the wallet for switching.

In Summary, Vyvanse is expensive and your Doc has the drug reps giving him gourmet pastries and back rubs to push their latest money maker. Do not let your Dr talk you into fixing something that is not broken.

Actually from what I've read the patent on adderall xr runs out in 2009 which isn't right around the corner.

Vyvanse was cheaper for me than Adderall XR

I am almost positive that doctors don't just switch you from one med to another, or in the same reasoning, start thier patient on a medication just because a drug rep talks to them about it.

I've had great results from switching, not saying that everyone will, but if there is something that you're not getting from your current med, why not give something else a shot?  Add xr was working really well for me, but was wearing off too soon so i decided to try vyvanse and have had much, much longer duraiton.

Best of luck!

I'm a fifty-five year old male. Just diagnosed Oct of 2006. Tried generic Ritalin, then Concerta, Adderall XR, and now generic short acting Adderall (2-4 hours).  My problem has been how long they last.

The Adderall XR lasted about 6 hours and was gone (20mg), and Concerta about the same. Doc let me go to generic Adderall 20mg 2 times a day. Morning pill lasts about 3 hours. I have none of the bad side effects many of you are experiencing. Just the big let down, lack of focus, and feeling of being overwhelmed when they run out. (Then get depressed because I know I'm capable of doing more, but just can't...

My 29 year old son was just diagnosed as well. He started with short term generic Adderall 2X a day, but got upset stomach. Doc changed him to Vyvanse 30mg and he loves it.

I'm going back to my doc Tuesday (Oct 23) to see if he'll change me to the Vyvanse. He's great and open to suggestions. I don't want to get to little of a dose, because he does make me wait a month before I can change.

My question: Any suggestions on an equivalent dosage of Vyvanse to an Adderall XR 20mg dose?

Adderall XR 20mg = ?mg Vyvanse

I called Shire. They were nice, but no particular advice. They said take the lower, then work up if needed. Two months of brain freeze to find out! I'd rather not.

Unless you have other suggestions, I plan to ask for the 50mg. At least I have a 50/50 chance of landing on the right dose. :-)

Thanks for the advice

HisWife, it sounds like adderall xr is NOT the med for your son. It wasn't for mine either.

We have had success with concerta. There are many meds for adhd that may be the "just right" one for your son. Adderall xr is not it.

You will know when you find the right one, he will have the least amount, if any side effects and will be the most successful, at what ever the dose is.

I would call the doc and try another med ASAP!

I am curious about Vyvanse. My 5 yr old son is currently on Adderal 5 mg in the am and 2.5mg in the afternoons. We tried 10mg Focalin XR with terrible results. He cried all the time and scratched his face. Bad enough that he left scars. We immediatly switched to Adderall XR and it was wearing off too soon for him. So our Dr thought it would be good to try regular release adderall. He was doing so so on it. We gave him about  months off of the pill for a break. We just started back and it is TERRIBLE. He doesn't sleep, he's very agitated, and just seems to wander around. He isn't focusing and over all just doesn't seem to be helping. He is starting to be very aggressive too. He is kicking and screaming. I am really becoming so upset. I don't know what else to do. I know there are more meds to try, but it just seems like we aren't going to be able to help Tyler or fiund relief as a family. Tyler is on his 2nd day of kindergarten and already he has been in trouble for wandering around the classroom. We go in soon. Maybe I will ask about Vyvanse.

I am a 34 year old adult and I've been taking Vyvanse for nearly a month now with great results. I've been taking Zoloft 50mg for the past 7 years and Adderall xr 35mg for the past 3 years. The addition of Adderall XR 3 years ago completely changed my life. I was always picked on as a youngster for being "confused", or "slow" or a "daydreamer" or "lazy" or any number of things. Zoloft lifted me out of depression and Adderall XR lifted the fog so I could "see", if that makes sense. I decided to try Vyvanse because my doc said it might last longer and it might be smoother which he said would equal fewer side effects. I was doing ok on adderall xr but decided what the heck, I'll try it. I switched over to 70mg right away and for the first week I felt kind of groggy, dizzy, with a headache. My doc prescribed me 50mg and told me to try that for a week, saying I had to get used to the drug first before going back up to 70mg, which is supposedly my equivalent dose. So I did that, tried 50mg instead for a week (mind you I was supplementing this 50mg with a 5xr in the morning)

After a week of 50mg vyvanse and 5 axr in the morning, I was beginning to notice that a change was underfoot, a change for the better. This vyvanse stuff was lasting longer with far less of that OCD'ish, too tight, too overfocused, too tense, too irritable feeling. I felt a quantum leap decrease in the amount of tension, irritability, OCD'ish feeling I didn't know I was having with the adderall xr. I then bumped up to 70mg of vyvanse with no axr booster in the morning and it was like I had arrived. The 70mg vyvanse works beautifully. Friends say that I'm way more easy-going now. And I definitely feel it. The afternoon hours are so much better. I have to honestly say that I thought my axr was working ok in the late afternoon hours to early evening but this stuff makes a world of difference in the evening. I'm getting 12-14 hours of coverage from this stuff. I can honestly say I love my doc for getting me through those first two weeks because damn if this isn't another life-changer.

I also recently added guanfacine in the evening to help with sleep. I take two tablets in the evening and it totally rocks. I've always had sleep issues, since I was a kid. I hate sleeping pills, clonodine can be a little too strong (but still good), but tenex seems to be a total winner.

In sum for me:

34year old adult male

before was taking zoloft 50mg with adderall xr 35mg in the morning

now taking zoloft 50mg with vyvanse 70mg

Vyvanse is longer-acting for me and less of the OCD, irritability, tension, anxiety stuff, less rebound effect, just feels like Diet Adderall XR. haha

ps..

I've read a lot of the posts on here about stimulants and I suspect that often times when stimulants don't work, it's because there is an underlying mood issue going on. Anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications can make all the difference in the world. Hope this helps. Oh, and do yourself a favor and drink TONS of water when taking these stimulants. Makes a HUGE difference in tolerability of the drug. Hydrate folks.

Thanks great news, Charlie.  Would you say that the Vyvanse hits you a bit stronger in the morning, or does it seem pretty even?  Just learned about the importance of hydration myself.  It DOES make a difference.  Also, I was sweating profusely but learned about a strong OTC antiperspirant called Certain Dri which works wonderfully.

I would say that "hits" is an uncomfortable and overly harsh drug effect. Being slammed like that is definitely not the case with Vyvanse seems to work fast, but not hit you like a freight train. Like a buzzing alarm clock as opposed to a loud beeping alarm clock. That being said, it works just as quickly as axr does. So much smoother it's like going from sleeping on 100 thread count sheets to 1000 thread count sheets.

Yes! Someone else has learned the value of hydrating while taking stimulants. I don't have the sweating problem though. That's why I live on the left coast.  =)

I remember 2 years ago when we started our daughter on Adderall XR.  I was extatic over the day time results and we only started at 5 mg.  Even at that the first week if not into the second week did we have major insomnia issues.  We're talking about it was after midnight before I could imagine she was going to sleep.  Atleast she wasn't bounching off the walls during those hours and I could get light rest myself.  We did consider taking her off of the meds because of the sleep issue and a slight problem with eatting but the day time results were too much to pass up and some of the other meds were not options because she has a terrible time trying to swallow a capsule.  The eatting and sleeping problems wore of within the second week.  Honestly it was introducing a new chemical and the chemical reaction in her body that once it was used to it being in her system she went back to her standard sleeping habits.  Was I ever so happy...well that was until the actual daytime results were going down and we had to look at increasing her dosage.  We've done it about every 6 months because her body seemed to adapt and we would increase with just 5mg adderal xr and we would go through the same insomnia and eatting probs for about the first week.  We recently got to the point where we had her at 25 mg of Adderal XR but the first week results really were diminished but with that in mind so were the day time results.  We just moved back to the area we are at currently from being overseas and the peds dr which is absolutely awesome says he really doesn't prescribe adderal or any other of the meds any more and recommended Vyvanese.  After he explained to me the chemical reaction and difference it was to Adderal I was all for it.  Well she's been on 50 mg Vyvanese now for one week.  Guess what we got again insomnia....so much that she was tired last night at dinner and looked like she was ready to fall asleep in her dinner but she was awake until 1230 last night.  I saw the way the week had worn her down so I let her sleep in today and go to school late...she didn't wake up on her own until 1030.  I look forward to the coming week and the initial response to upping or changing the meds wears off.  Overall though I like the difference that Vyvanese provides.  With the Adderal XR the peak was earlier in the day and would wear off early evening...if we had later plans we were given option of regular Adderal (short release).  The peak of Vyvanese is later and the duration is longer.  I just hope we don't have to look at the increase to 70 mg.

My recommendation would be if u like the overall results give it a couple of weeks for the initial reactions to wear off if they don't then see what the dr can do about it as long as there not serious reactions to the meds that need to be addressed sooner.  If the main overall results are significant and satisfactory enough I also would suggest not increasing dosage.  If sleep is concernded then Melatonin would be the first thing I would suggest to ask your doctor about because it is what your body naturally produces for sleep.  The other drugs may help you go to sleep but a lot actually interfere with your sleep cycle and disturb your stage 4 sleep which is very important especially in children.  It's where the body repairs and restores itself and that you actually fully rest and recoperate.

a SftWrmRain39448.0191666667i have been taking vyvanse for 2 weeks now. Its a miracle drug. it puts me at
ease, i no longer get agitated or have anxiety, i can focus clearly and i get
things done that i never would have. it definately is longer lasting. i take it
about 11 am since im not a morning person and it lasts untill about 11 or
12. id say for kids i understand how they may not be able to get to sleep. it
was hard for me at first but its getting better. the only other side effects
were dry mouth, loss of appetite, and for the first couple days i had a
thudding heart beat, but that has faded. otherwise its positives intensely
outweigh the few negatives. I've been taking Adderall (30mg bid) for over 3 years. i have severe AHDH with extreem impulsivity and mood swings. On Adderall, these symptoms are almost diminished. 2 weeks ago, i decided to try vyvansse. i had read about the "lasting symptom control" for 12 HOURS! i was like "holy sh*t! no peaks and valley's?!" however the medication (in my experience) over promised and underdelivered. after some exteansive research, i discovered that Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine Dymslate) is no more than dextro-Amphetamine, coupled with the amino-acid lyzine (lyzine helps to control muscle breakdown 'i.e. rhabdomylosis' which can be caused by prolonged amphetamine use). so basically, youre getting F***ed by Shire pharmaceuticals; paying 0 for a bottle of 30mg (THE LOWEST DOSE).

breakdown: 30mg of adderall = 7.5mg of each
                    dexamphetamine sulfate
                                                 asaprtate
                    amphetamine sulfate
                                              monohydrate

Vyvanse 30mg = 15mg dexamphetamine (coupled with) 15mg lyzine

you're getting about HALF the dose and NONE of the effectiveness

in my opinion, you're better off slightly lowering ther dose of adderall, and taking a lyzine supplement.

i'm not a doctor. but this has worked for me. i literally made a fool of myself when i came back in the office screaming for my adderall back. i got into a wreck, and had to get a rental for this next week. dont make the switch. vyvanse can work, dont get me wrong, but if your kid is doing well on adderall. LEAVE IT BE! shire wants vyvanse to replace adderall, not taking into cxonsideration that most of its adhd consumers are going to be thrown into a cluster,  because pissed off parents dont want to take control of their kids medication to prevent abuse. thanks

ms.mom39919.8193865741I wasn't diagnosed w/ ADHD until I was an adult. I took Ritalin while I was in college and stopped when I graduated. I am back in school and starting my own company and needed the focus to function optimally. So, I tried Adderall 20mg and it worked perfect!! I don't have insurance and Adderall is quite expensive. There is a patient assistance program for Vyvanse so I'm trying it out. I can't say I'm a fan. I feel kind of sedated and down. I am also very very hyper focused on one thing. I was on 20 mg and just started 40 mg. Does anyone know the mg equivancy w/ Vyvanse and Adderall? Anyone with similar reactions? I'm also 95lbs so it makes it tricky to go by child or adult dosing. Any help?? Also, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to take the medication (Vyvanse)? W/ food w/out food? Does it need to be separate from vitamins and other meds? I currently take it w/ breakfast, morning vitamins, and Wellbutrin xr. This medication has also really increased my appetite. It feels as though it has the exact opposite effect than it was intended. My doctor has left the details to me and I feel quite overwelmed. I was very happy to find this site. Thank you so much for taking the time to help!!My sister was recently prescribed Vyvanse. The doctor said that she could break the capsule, empty the contents into water and drink half of the solution one day while saving the other half for the next day. However, the literature from Vyvanse specifically says not to do this.  Has anyone divided dosage?  Any advice?

My son is 9 and has been on Vyvanse for 1 week.  We have no previous experience with any ADD meds.  The doctor suggested he take it before 9am.  My son can not take pills, so I mix it in a 1/2 glass of milk in the morning, about 6:30am.  He was a bored snacker, not anymore.  I push liquids and tell him to try and eat at school.  He weighs 95 pounds, so I am not really concerned about the eating as much.  The dose carrys us through early evening.  He goes to bed around 9pm.  Around 8-8:30pm, his ears get real red and hot and he complains of a headache.  That is probably when he is crashing from the meds.  It is hard for him to fall asleep sometimes.  He took it Monday-Friday, and we vacationed this weekend.  I was worried about that, and we will see tonight what effects that vacation had.  Within the first few days I noticed a difference in concentration at home for homework.  I hope it continues.  Thanks to all.

I was reading an earlier thread from Angela and Alex loks like from back in
July. It got my interest because she said prior to the Vyvanse her son kept to
himself while on Adderall. I feel like this is hat I'm seeing with Focalin,
although the school reports are that he is more talkative, social and
aware...maybe the diff environment? Anyway, I would love to have the ADHD
under control, but not see him as internal or less avilable at home as it
seems he's been at home. It's only been a
a few weeks, and it's been primarily positive with Focalin, but something
tells me there may be something even better out there for him...perhaps it's
this? Please keep posting I'm very curious!billy:

The vyvanse may help you pay attention to your hunger.  While it suppresses appetite theoretically, it also helps you notice the small things in your life.

This page compares Vyvanse and Adderall.
Ok does all the kids on this have sleeping problems?? My son has been on Ritalin based drugs sence 4. With no sleeping problems. Do I have something to worry about?? My son has been on concerta for 5 years, no sleeping problems!! Nor eating problems since his body adjusted after the first 18 months.
My son is eleven. He has been on Adderall for about three years now and his doctor suggested we try Vyvanse. Has anyone tried this medication? Yes and this is why I joined this forum!  My name is Bill and I feel like I lost my daughter for 4 years because of Adderall and Vyvanse.  She became increasingly tolerant of the Adderall, so her doctor switched her to Vyvanse.  However, Vyvanse is also amphetamine based, so she became tolerant to it too.  She needed more and more of the drug.  It caused a nightmare for our family because she was moody, irate, and displayed behavioral traits that were addict-like.  We spent the past year looking for a remedy to these things.  She was put on even more drugs, but to no avail.  The only thing that helped wan her off the medication was a vitamin/supplement called Ampheta-Restore.  We now live by this stuff and have told all of our family and friends about it.  It isn't a drug and helped curb her tolerance after a few weeks.  I am a huge advocate of this stuff now and actually email their customer support team from time to time.  They seem to be dedicated to getting our children off of these drugs.  I am passionate about my daughter and her future and I am sure you are too regarding your family!  I hope this helps!

I'm currently on adderall but was on vyvanse for extended period of time.  Let's not get carried away.  I have found for all intents and purposes, adderall and vyvanse have the same effect on me.  Vyvanse is a bit more even throughout the day.  But this can be solved by splitting splitting your dosage of Adderall XR (once in the morning and once in the afteroon).  Plus, you can buy generic adderall xr for 1/10th the cost of vyvanse.  Shire pharmaceutical's patent on Adderall expired (which is why it is now available in generic), so Vyvanse is just Shire's new way of making money on ADHD meds.  I wouldn't get too caught up in the hype.

His medication specialist suggested this. She said she has heard great result's with Vyvanse. It is not so much the Adderall is not working, Since we are in the summer month's we are more laid back not so rush rush with the winter and school.

I have heard some people with good results too, just not sure why the doc would want to fix something thats not broken (meaning the adderall).

If you decide to switch keep us informed. All this feedback is great especially with new meds.

why do you want to switch? Is the Adderall not working? My son is eleven. He has been on Adderall for about three years now and his doctor suggested we try Vyvanse. Has anyone tried this medication? Please let me know of your experience on this medication, Thank you from a concerned mom Angela.
