Don't force her.  Give the meds times to stabalise - you may find that after a few months that her appetite improves.  Our daughter lost weight while on concerta at first and now has stabalised.  Our son never put on weight and was very thin.  We ended up giving him something to help sleep and the result was weight gain.  Absolutely fantastic - he how has a cute tummy and his ribs are not protuding.  He must have put on about 1 1/2 stone in 2 months.  Hopefully this will stablise at some point soon!

thanks for the info,  I will put all the suggestions to work and try to relax some.  I have found that I can intice her to put icecream with her necterines and berries and she'll eat that.  It's a good thing it's so hot icecream sounds good all the time and a good source of dairy and a little fat.  THanks again.

Is her weight a concern? Has it been a concern?

If you doctor does what our does, your daughter will be weighed each and every visit in order for them to monitor the weight in accordance to the dosage etc.   Our nutritionist the doctor had us meet with encouraged fruit, protein items, cheese, etc...  You may want to ask your doctor about a recommendation of a nutritionist.  It was really worth the I spent to meet with ours.  I learned so much.

Our nutritionist also recommended we not "force" anything on our son.  Just to make sure we keep  products in the house that are good choices.  She said that kids will learn to eat the proper foods as long as we don't provide a lot of the wrong foods in the house.  Keep variety available and then your daughter will have a choice rather than you telling her what to eat.  Hope this makes sense. Good luck!

4myson39291.7782291667I add carnation instant breakfast to my son's milk ...... it works great and he really enjoys driniking it.  We also go with whole milk for the extra calories.

When all else fails we go with the smoothie.  Full fat yogurt, a banana, several strawberries and a bit of orange juice.  Works every time and is a healthy choice.  The weight issue is a tough one.  Took my son off meds for the summer and he put on about 5 pounds.  Perhaps I will be a bit less anxious when his appetite starts diminishing again.

I used the smoothies too, using a carnation instant breakfast packet, whole milk, even a spoonful of the highest calorie ice cream I could find. And the banana of course. Only skipped the banana when we did chocolate, those dd loved the most (of course) and you could really get some high calorie ice cream when you're talking chocolate. We also make shakes with high calorie ice cream and some half and half. My DS takes trazodone to help him get to sleep at night. This increases appetite so he is VERY hungry about 30 mins before bedtime. He eats most of his claroies after 7 p.m. each night.

It took my son a couple months after we found the correct dose of focalin xr to really start eating normally again.  That is, normally for him.  I still have to remind myself that he never was a big eater.  But he's always grown just fine.

I also have to remind myself not to compare him to the other kids at school.  Many of them are overweight which makes our kids look even skinnier than they really are.  My son has always been at the 50% mark for both height and weight on the doctor's percentile charts, but next to some of his friends he looks downright scrawny.

I don't know if this is possible for you, but during the summer I have been waiting until after lunch to give my son his meds.  That means he eats a bigger lunch than usual, and sometimes a morning snack.  I run a home daycare, though, so I'm with him all day and can do that (dependant on behavior and if we have to get anything done).  It also doesn't effect his sleep at all, although I've heard some people say that they can't take it too late in the day for that reason.

My daughter has been on folcalin XR for almost 2 months I think we are close to the right dose she's been handling life pretty good.  I am finding that her appitite is very low.  After her first month she dropped 2 lbs.  I am impressed that it seems with her being on meds she is craving more fruits that say chips, crackers, those sorts of things.  Great choices for eating habits but I can't intice her with any fat filled snacks.  I push peanut butter with her apples but thats about how far I get.  I force her to eat the small helpings of meal I give her just because she needs to eat.  I've tried the grazing all day but she still won't eat.  I just need some suggestions. Any ideas??
