I found the solution to lack of appetite | ADHD Information

I don't know if this was just my imagination but after 3 days of practice, and subsequently eating non-stop, he pulled off his shirt when he got home last night (he was dripping with sweat as it was their 1st day in full gear and 95 degree weather) and I swear I couldn't see his ribs nearly as well as I'm used too.  I know I'm not the only one who could count ribs from 20 feet away.

Apparently the coaches also told the boys to run around the block 4 times every day in full gear to build strength.  Of course my kid wakes up this morning, suits up, runs around the block once and promptly spills red gatorade all over himself.

It is amazing what a couple of lbs will do!  My son looks so great with the 6 he has added this summer.  I am planning to try him on strattera for back to school.  First I am going to do the amino acid test.
Hey Jaderock:
If my son drinks gatorade he climbs the walls.  Between the sugar and dyes!!!  Oh man!
Yeah, I usually stay away from the red dye for that reason- the other colors don't seem to do much to him though.  Unfortunately this is what happens when I take the boy to the store with me- I end up putting something I won't usually buy in the cart for leverage with the behavior.

Football Practice!

I have NEVER seen my child eat so much at one time.  He had the first night of practice last night from 6-8pm.  I fed him dinner before we left and when we left practice the first thing he said was "Mom, I'm hungry".  So we get home and he eats 2 sandwiches, an 8 oz. yogurt, and a huge slice of cinnamon bread (I cut it as thick as 3 regular slices of bread).  It only took him 10 minutes (I started to worry he was going to make himself sick eating that fast) and he was totally focused on eating- no fidgeting, talking, wandering around the house, etc.

I have to admit having my misgivings about this sport- not so much about him getting hurt as about the 3 weeks of daily practice (2 hrs. a day) until school starts, at which point they drop down to the "league maximum of 5 hrs/wk".  But if he keeps eating at this rate I think I might like it.  I'm not too concerned about his weight as he hasn't lost any, but he hasn't gained any in the past year either.

Exercise does improve appetite. I mentioned to a friend the other day that kids who play outside all day eat anything and sleep like rocks.

DD's appetite issues go the other direction entriely, Stims increase her appetite, so we have weight gaining issues.

My son's problem with the eating is the TIME he eats. He goes all day without anything, then around 4-5pm maybe not until 7pm he begins. He is eating way too late and the calories are adding up. His meds still take away his appetite, but he is a night eater, a "too late at night" eater.

thanks for the info.  As much as I hate the running between two childrens sporting schedules, if it will make my daughter have a better appitite it will be so worth it.  I hope he holds up of the eating bill but feel bad for the grocery bill.  Good luck!
