Sleep Apnoea | ADHD Information

Share
I was in a lecture today and a Sleep Physician who was giving the lecture said that a 1/3 of people diagnosed with ADHD actually have sleep apnoea which manifests itself as decreased cognitive ability, daytime sleepiness/clumsiness etc.. Has anyone been tested for sleep problems?I have had two sleep studies. I was put on a cpap a year ago.  I actually thought I had adhd, and never even got to mention to the Doc before she said my problem was sleep apnea.  I did test for a moderate/severe case of it. They said the cpap would "change my life."  I did manage to stay awake at stoplights after it kicked in. lol.  and I no longer wake up gasping for breath, and I can dream again....But the only thing that changed my life was the adderall.  I had adhd symtoms as a child though. It was in the 70's, and I was not a behavior problem so it wasn't diagnosed, but I have always had odd behaviors since kindergarten.  My sleep doctor told me that the sleep apnea was caused by a thyroidectomy I had 16 yrs ago.  It is interesting someone put the two together. Do you remember the lecturer's name?  I would like to see what I can find out about this. I have thought about asking for a sleep study.  A few times a year I wake up in the middle of the night unable to gasp for breath and I scare my wife to death.  My brother monitors sleep lab subjects and is always telling me how many people have the problem and have no idea.
