my adhd meds make me smoke more. do u drink caffeine? the reason i ask is cuz drinking coffee made me xtremely nautious. i do think its great that your trying to quit smoking though, i wish i could.
now i have a question for u, is vyvanse available for adults? the reason i ask is cuz i seen on the net that it was only for teens and children at the moment and it could take up to 10 months to get it approved thru fda for adults.
Thank you. I am currently quitting, slowly. I become severely depressed when I quit ( which relates to my brain chemistry and the fact that nicotine messes with my medication, my psychiatrist explained), and have tried to over twelve times. He told me I need to quit very slowly, three months at the least, to allow the chemicals in my brain to adjust and for my antidepressants to adjust to not having nicotine affect them, this way I will not suffer a severe episode (which makes it impossible to quit, because I know smoking will make the pain go away, it's chemical). Thank you for your concern though, I will be done with cigarettes in two months and will see if that helps.Yes, the adhd meds may cause a temporary depressed feeling when it wears off, most people refer to this as the "crash." Secondly, combining ciggs with adhd meds is most likely to blame for the nauseous feeling you get. Reason being, nicotine is a stimulant, and so is vyvanse. How to get rid of insomnia, well ciggs are known to cause insomnia for one, and vyvanse apparently is more likely to cause insomnia than other adhd meds. Try qutting the ciggs, and see if you still struggle with the insomnia, otherwise talk to your doctor about it. I'm pretty sure he would want you to drop the ciggs as well. Most people who smoke are usually using it as a means of self-medication to deal with depression, so I'm not sure why you haven't ditched the filthy habit after you've been on antidepresssants/mood stabilizers for the last 5 years.
Johnnyboi39298.9861226852 Hello, I was just diagnosed with Adhd and was put on Vyvanse. I am on my 3rd day, and am wondering if I should switch to something else. I'll go ahead and tell you I've also been diagnosed with severe major depressive disorder, so the depressive symptoms could very well be from that. My first day on Vyvanse was absolutely wonderful, no side effects and I felt great, was able to focus better (not nearly to the full extent that I needed, but it was a noticable difference) , was more sociable, ect.. When the medication started to wear off (around 6-6:30pm) I became depressive. The second day I was nauseous and noticed my focus was not as good as the day before and I was not as motivated. I still became depressive when the medication wore off. Today I noticed I didn't become nauseous until I smoked, and am wondering if smoking has an effect on the medication (or coincidence), I feel depressed this morning and didn't want to get out of bed to do anything after taking my medicine (but then again, mornings are always a problem for me). It could be that my depression is resurfacing, stronger than it was before. August is always a hard month for me, the seasons affect me very strongly. So my questions are: Can these medications make people depressed? What about after they wear off? And does smoking have an effect (nausea) on medication? What can be done about nausea and insomnia? Hahns39298.368599537Co morbid conditions always complicate treatment. For the very reasons you explain. It's hard to know what is side effect and what is due to the co exisitng condition. My dd has co-existing anxiety and it is quite the puzzle.
My thoughts are a couple of things, 3 days is not very long is my first thought.
However, if you are already suffering depression you certainly do not want to make your depressive symptoms worse. Is the depression being treated? It seems it should be. Soem antidepressants will help alleviate many of your ADHD symptoms. MY daughter takes Desipramine, which is an antidepressant. Others are treated with Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin can be combined with a stimulant once you've got that dose settled. I am not sure if the Desipramine can, although I doubt it, we will not use that option anyway.
Who's prescribing for you? Primary Care or psychiatrist?
3 days is not very long, I know. The depression is being treated, I'm taking Cymbalta along with Risperdal and Topomax. I am about to switch the topomax to another mood stabilizer because of "word finding" difficuly. I've been on anti-depressants/mood stabilizers for 5 years, but my ADHD (that I just found out about) just seems to have been getting worse. I am being treated by a psychiatrist.
