VyVanse - how long to take effect in 6yo | ADHD Information

Share

Hi, I'm new here.

My son is 6 1/2. He as dx ADHD after a two-hour appt. with a psychiatrist. He started 30 mg VyVanse today. Everyone always says "you'll notice a difference the first day!"
NOT. In fact, he's talking MORE than usual today.

Do I need to be concerned?

He wasn't babbling or anything, so I guess I would say relevant. Just very long versions of every story he had to tell.

He was great with following instructions and was not easily distracted.

Just a motor-mouth! And he was up until 11:30 p.m. last night, laying in bed tossing and turning. Then up at 7:30 a.m. this morning.

I read the insomnia side effect should ease up. I hope so. Seems weird to me for him to get up tired in the morning from the insomnia the night before, and then given a stimulant. Kind of like an adult drinking two pots of coffee after a sleepless night.

May be talking more because the meds may be giving him a slight buzz.  However, does all the talking seem relevant or irrelevant? With all the talking going on, does he listen when you ask him to do something, or is he easily distracted? I can recall in another post where some people mentioned "more talkative" as something they experienced with vyvanse.  Not sure whether this wears off after continued usage, but just decided to reply since nobody else has.
