NEW QUESTION, child on VyVanse | ADHD Information

Share

Okay, my 6-year-old son took his second VyVanse this morning.

Just know, he thew up. No other symptoms such as fever or aches.

IS IT THE VYVANSE? I'm beginning to really not be sure about this med,and it's only his second day. He talks more, sleeps lesss, and pukes.

Okay. last night after he was sick that one time, he ate some cereal and was fine - except he was awake ALL NIGHT. Literally. Not only was he awake, he was talking alot. At one point he got up and walked around the living room looking for his sister. He was not sleepwalking. He was awake. NOW he's asleep. I am very concerned and have a call in to the psychiatrist.I think you are doing the right thing. Being up all night is just not ok.............

I believe he was hallucinating. He was walking around saying "where's Alyssa, where's Alyssa?" Then he started asking the same thing of his dad. Then he told his dad, :I didn't thank that was you there in bed."

He sat up in the night, started waving his arms around, talking to nobody.

I'm freaked right out.

oh the poor kid, he must've been dreaming.................yeah I would skip it today and talk to the doctor.

Thanks Diane.

His symptoms of ADHD were 'mild' to begin with: mostly he had troubles sitting still and talking too much in class during Kindergarten, blurting out answers, fidgeting with his clothes. He doesn't throw fits or behave like a little human tornado, what some people call "bouncing off the walls."

So I don't see any GOOD results from the VyVanse, just bad at this point.
Could be the med. SOmetimes they do irritate the stomach./ Is he eating before taking it? It is sometimes best to make sure they have a high protein, high fat breaky so hold them for the day. The higher protein and higher fat also helps with the release of the meds.
He was literally taking his second bite of pasta when he up and ran for the bathroom. He took the medication at 7:30 in the morning. This was 6:30 at night.

it really sounds like this is not the med for him. Once you talk to his doctor, you can decide the next step together. Hang in there, it is so frustrating trying to find the right med. Each child is so different. Something will work for him......he sounds like my daughter, she is mostly inattentive and impulsive too.............Please tell me your experience with your daugther. I am desperate for other parent's input. How old is she? What is she on for meds? how much? she is older than your son. She is almost 13 now. She has taken quite a few different meds. They are all so different. Each delivery system is different too. She never took Vyvnase as it is very new. It sounds like the rest though, great for some not good for others. It is really all so individual. There is no way to know what will work and what wont. My daughter has co-exisitng anxiety so that complicates it all quite a bit as many of stimulants can increase anxiety. Dont give up, though, believe me I know how you are feeling, so panicky today, but it will get better.

Just for information purposes, should anyone have questions on VyVanse, here is the update.

Nurse said to stop the med immediately (you think?) My son was just telling me all about the fairies, ghosts and mini-people he played with in the house all night long. No doubt he was hallucinating.

What blows me away is that he is STILL awake. He's been up for 24 hours.

I just wanted to tell you that my daughter (5) is on 50mg of Vyvanse and started seeing hair all over her hands on the 10th day of this medication.  I have a call into the dr. this a.m.  I am not giving the med to her again this morning and am really not looking forward to the terrible day we're going to have.  She is very impulsive and extremely hyperactive and is all over the place.

How is your son doing by the way?

Hi Mondi,

Wow, hair on the hands? That's different. I'm sorry to hear that.

My son was awake for 32 hours. He was clicking his teeth (a tic?) most of the day too. Thank goodness he wasn't hallucinating anymore. He fell asleep finally at 4:30 p.m. and slept through until 8:30 this morning. He seems perfectly fine now.

The psyhchiatrist said NONE of his patients have had this severe reaction to the VyVanse. Now he wants to try Tenex, but I'm a little gun-shy to try anything quite yet.

My son is mildly hyper (talks a lot, can't stay sitting in his seat at school) and impulsive (blurts out answers, interrupts people). We had a bad year of Kindergarten last year because of these things. I don't want to repeat this in the 1st grade, for the sake of his little self-esteem (he says he's the "bad kid" even though "I try my hardest not to be.")

I'm extremely discouraged, but from reading all these posts I realize the search for the right medication can be timely and frustrating - but when you find the right one, you're thankful you did.

By the way, It sounds to me like your daughter has been hallucinating.

hmmmm....When it finally gets out of his system he is going to crash, in a big way. When dd took Concerta she had no sleep for 36 hours, then crashed for 18. Glad you stopped the med though, it isn't the right one for him obviously.
