There is a long thread on Tenex (guanfacine). We have found it very useful for my youngest. It helped a lot but not quite good enough for school without the stimulant. Shire is waiting approval for thier long acting guanfacine for children with ADHD, so there will soon (I heard Jan 08 from someone) be an approved form available. Here is the Tenex link, which is long but has links to some really good info on the meds and some cautions on titrating the dose:

Tenex is a Blood pressure med that is sometimes used to treat ADHD, mostly the impulsiveness, and to help with sleep. It does not do much for focusing.
Tenex is not the only nonstimulant available for ADHD.
If he does not want a stim , what about Strattera?
Okay, due to the overwhelming and "unusual" (that's a qoute) side effect my 6-year-old son has experienced after only two days on VyVanse, psych says no more stimulants for my boy. Good idea.
But he is now suggesting TENEX, which I can't find much about other than it is NOT FDA approved to treat ADHD, and it is NOT approved for children under the age of 12.
I tried to search it on this forum but it keeps timing out.
Anyone????
