concerta 36 vs. 54? | ADHD Information
I've been taking concerta 36 mg. for what seems like a century now. I say this because my focus hasn't improved much, and I don't know whether an increase would make that much of a difference. It does help my motivation (I'm very sluggish and lazy w/ no meds) but I still can't maintain the focus to do what I've become motivated to do. My starting dose was 27; since my doc and I both have learned I have a higher tolerance, we just skipped the 18. 27 and 36 didn't make too much difference to me, so I'm wondering if 54 will help that much more with my focus, which is still lacking. Unfortunately I can only see my doc 15-20 minutes a month, and I have another 2-3 weeks to go, so I am asking everyone here what they think until that time. Last visit I asked what he would suggest if concerta were not to work, and he said adderall xr, which I am skeptical about for a number of reasons. If 54 doesn't work, I either have to wait another month to change meds, or, if possible, ask him to write me a trial or rx for something else if 54 doesn't work, so as to save me another month's worth of little progress.
Is it likely that 54 will be much different than 36? I've heard how different doses can create completely different reactions...I'm keeping my fingers crossed. On 18 mg we saw very little change with my youngest, but at 27 she did wonderfully. The oldest felt nothing at 27mg but can "hear" the teacher and complete all her work at 36. So for my kids, there is a big difference between doses.Thank you vickie, that gives me some hope. Since I started on 27 mg, I've only increased by 9 mg. since I've started the med, and going to 54 would be double that, an 18 mg. increase. I'm hoping, since it's dosed by symptoms, this dose was only enough to jumpstart my motivation, but more will be needed to help my focus.
My 14 year old son is very tiny and takes 72mg concerta. He had no change on 18mg, 36mg - slight change on 54 mg and probably a little dopey on 72. We don;t have 27 here in Australia which would be fantastic as I think 63 would be just right!!!!!!!!! Keep going to see an effect - if it is negative then you can rule it out. Positive then you are onto a winner!! Good luckI was just concerned that if it's working well for me, I should notice a change from the very beginning, even though it probably will not last. I guess it's different for people with a high tolerance for meds...
One thing other meds have that concerta doesn't, you can cut them up and fine-tune your dosages better. I really think they should come out with different dosages, or put it in a form that can be cut or broken (like adderall)
I just hope 54 mg. does make a world of difference..
