Just came across this article
I saw that this morning too- I laughed at the headline, but it's great research.Well I think that is great news!!! My son has severe ADHD as well but when he is controlled and on his meds he is a bright, loving child. I also watched the Dr. Phils "ADD" show and it just determines how much Drs, teachers, society has left to know about children with ADHD. Thanks for sharing the article!!!!
no ADHD on my side or dd's fathers side either, but with all genetic links, it starts somewhere. My daughter has other issues that they say are genetic, but we cant link it.................No one in my husband's family or my family has ever had or been diagnosed with an attention problem ( and I can hear you nay-sayers thinking,"Well, someone just didn't see it." Really, no attention problems, behavior problems, etc. Very normal average people.). BUT my dad had Parkinson's disease, which I understand is related somehow to production, or lack thereof, of dopamine. I wonder if this is the connection?? Now when I look at my husband's family I see ADHD everywhere! At family get-togethers I just sit there in amazement, identifying the typical behaviors. At least half of the family has it.I'm not sure I get this. Researchers have known this for years. Why is this news?Isn't the thinner brain tissue the new info?Because some think it doesn't exist. That is is just an excuse.
Dr. Phil is a great example of this. He has horrible advice for ADD, and he still uses the term ADD that hasn't been used in the medical field for years.
Watching his shows on ADHD really upset me, and his so called specialist, I can't even think of his name, is such a quack!! I feel bad for those who believe what he says, especially the children.
I read a medical article that I read on another ADHD board that someone was kind enough to link. It talked about how over time, the medications that we are giving our children will start to repair the brain. This is obviously for those who are correctly diagnosed. I gave the article to my pediatrician to read. Those members on the other board had been talking about it before the article had been posted.
Obviously as the mother to a wonderful boy with severe adhd, I hope there is some truth to it. They all seemed very positive about it and had been following the research for quite some time.
We will all find out! I do know that life without my son's meds would be very frustrating and not as succesful as it has been!
