Ritalin/Appetite Loss | ADHD Information

The appetite loss is tough.  All I can suggest is to eat a good breakfast before taking it in the morning, and to eat as much as desired at night after it wears off.  Other than that, maybe drink Ensure or one of those drinks to make sure you're getting adequate nutrition.  Definitely take a multivitamin!

I know that Ritalin causes appetite loss, but it seems like there are some days when I don't want to even look at food, except for just eat breakfast and drink my morning cup of coffee- and that is it. Most days I have all I can do to finish half of my meals, if that. Due to another medication I take for BPII, that has messed up my metabolism, I have not lost any weight from this appetite loss issue- though it couldn't hurt me any.

I know that appetite loss is a side effect of Ritalin- but I didn't realize it was this bad. My son, who also takes Ritalin has low appetite problems, but is there a way I can help him defeat this problem? As for me- I really don't care, but now that I take this medication, I now understand why it is so hard for him to struggle and eat at most meal times. He is 8 and only weighs 42 pounds dripping wet.

Thank you. :)
