Strattera is a Norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor , no effect on Serotonin.
Wellbutrin and Strattera both affect the same chemicals on the brain, it would probably not be a good idea to take both. Alot of Psych's do prescribe both, but the Wellbutrin is taken in MUCH smaller doses.
Wellbutrin is classified as an "atypical antidepressant". It doesn't fit into any of the other categories.... It doesn't act on serotonin, just dopamine and norepinephrine.thanks for clarifying.Okay, I have a question. My doc says that I cannot take Wellabutrin while on Strattera because it's like the same thing. Well, if Wellabutrin didn't help with my ADD, how in the heck is Strattera going to help?
Is this a stupid question?
Thanks,
Mia
is wellbutrin an SSNRI also?No it's not a stupid question. Wellbutrin affects norepinephrine and dopamine. Straterra affects serotonin and norepinephrine. Norepinephrine is the main neurotransmitter responsible for focus. Straterra may or may not help, it's just a matter of trial and error. Serotonin is the happy chemical, which most anti-depressants are very well known to work on such as, Prozac, Zoloft, Lexapro, Paxil, and so on. They are in a class of meds called Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Another class is called SSNRI's. They are medications which act by selectively inhibiting the reuptake of both serotonin and norepinephrine, hence the acronym Selective Serotonin & Norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. This is the class under which Straterra falls.
**Strattera is a Norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor , no effect on Serotonin.**
edbson is correct. I take Prozac (serotonin) and Strattera (norephinephrine).
