anyone had success with strattera? | ADHD Information
Hey everyone, my son is 6 and started on strattera a couple of days ago, just wondering if any other parents have tried this medication on their children and how they did on it and also what side effects they had if any??
thanks
Strattera takes 6-8 weeks to see full effects but many do. My DD used it for over a year with great success, we only stopped it because of weight gain( she gained ALOT of weight).
Side effects are lessened when it is ramped properly, and they tend to go away fairly rapidly.
We switched to Strat last June and have had great success so far. It's good to switch during summer break because it gives time for our boys to get used to a new drug in time to start the next school year.
Keep in good contact with your son's doctor (visits every six weeks, or so) so the drug can be monitored and adjusted if needed.
We started to give it to him in the morning, with breakfast, but the only "side effects" we saw was a ill feeling in his stomach and he got sleepy. Then, our doctor told us to give it to him at dinner so he can sleep through the first 8 hours of being on it. That seems to have helped him with the stomach and lethargy. My 6 year old has been on Strattera for 3 months now. It went really smoothly and I feel it was very successful.
I have just started it with my older son and we are ramping 10 then 18 and today 28. Still low for his size. My problem with him is that he is on Tenex too. We weaned off concerta as school wound down. He came off with a great appetite and then that slowed way down. I took him off supplements to have a blood test and was hopeing some supplement was zapping his appetite. It did not help. Then I started the strattera and it is getting worse! Nothing sounds good to him. I will weigh him and see if he is losing.
Any thoughts?
