ADHD meds and reflux? | ADHD Information

Thanks for the imput, mine actually feels like burning and sometimes I almost feel like it burns up in my ears, no shortness of breath, just a mild irritation, not really that painful.  I love my cup (and I do mean one, now that I'm on Concerta I can't tolerate more than one) of coffee in the mornings, maybe I should just give it up, it's more of a habit now than an addiction like before meds..... you can't have it all, can you?  I had to have an endoscopy done in June, that's how I know it's reflux.  The doctor says I have scar tissue in my esophagus (a stricture I believe it's called) that has caused about a 40% blockage and they want to go back in and stretch it out.  Of all things, I choked on a bay scallop (for any of you that don't know, they are tiny!) and had to go to the hospital and have it removed, or poked on through with the endooscopy, I should say!  AAGGHH, that was awful.  He put me on Nexium, but it made me feel horrible so I stopped taking it.  Not sure I want to take it, would prefer to take a more natural approach considering I have never had this problem in my LIFE!

Just trying to discern what to do and find out if anyone else has had this as a side effect of medication......

Thanks again!

Hi everyone, how I love this website, so much great information and first hand experience, here is one for all of you.  I am 43 and have never had trouble with reflux or GERD in my life, well except maybe when I was very pregnant, but what woman can't complain of it at that time!

Since starting meds about 3 months ago, I seem to be troubled with it.  I'm on Concerta 36mg (about 1 month), but was on Focalin XR before that.  Have any of you experienced this, if so what did you do about it?  Maybe it's just my age, everything else is falling apart, so my stomach and esophagus (sp?) might as well join the club!

I do have something caused by the Adderall XR that I take, but not sure exactly what it is.  I get this semi-tight feeling in my chest sometimes that keeps me from taking a real deep breath for a bit.  It kind of feels like it could be reflux but doesn't really cause me to burp or anything.  I have very mild asthma, and I use my inhaler but it doesn't help.  My doctor said it's a side effect of the Adderall.  It comes and goes--doesn't happen regularly.  Kind of weird.  Anybody experience this type of thing?  Maybe this is reflux and I just don't know it!

Elana - Yup, I noticed some mild issues with heartburn/reflux after starting Ritalin.  In my case it was nothing too bothersome, but I do think that is not an unusual complaint.

Circus - I have gotten that too although it is something that happens to me now and then anyway.  I have always thought it was mostly related to anxiety (I have panic disorder) which certainly could be exacerbated by Adderall.  If I ignore it, it goes away somewhat quickly.
