Ritalin LA dose | ADHD Information

My 8 year old (70#) is taking Ritalin LA 30 mg.

I would like to give him an immediate release in the afternoon on the days
he has soccer. The doctor doesn't seem very willing. Does anyone have
experience with this?we did for a while. A 20mg LA in the a.m. and 5 mg regular release after school.Someone told me today that the dose my 6yr old 50lb son is on is too high.  He is on 30mg ritalin la.  What are others taking?  Oh and is there a ritalin xl?

Ritalin is not dosed by weight, but by symptoms. Did he start lower and work up to 30? How does he handle the 30?

The long acting Ritalin are Ritalin LA (10 hour) and Ritalin SR(8 hour). We used both. The LA definitely last longer than the SR.

Hi,

My son (10yrs, 81lbs) is on Ritalin LA 30. It may need to be upped this year.  Our doc said it is dosed by weight initially (just to get a starting dose) and then adjusted up or down by symptom relief.  My daughter is on Ritlalin LA 20 and is about 67lbs. It's too much for your son if he is a zombie, not himself, can't sleep, talks too much, and not getting the focus he needs.  Those are the indications that the dose is wrong. However, most kids do need time to adjust (about a week or two).  Wow, that was a long way to give you a round about answer. Good luck.

My son is 6 and 40 pounds.  He is on Ritalin LA 30mg and has been since  he was about 30 pounds.  He also takes 10mg of short acting ritalin in the afternoon.

His doctor mentioned uping the dose at our last visit, but then decided because of his weight not too!
