Thanks for the input. We are starting some behavior therapy. He started kindergarden this week, so far so good. He will meet with a new psyc. in a couple of weeks. I never thought that adderall would have that effect on my child I was so scared. Right now he is not on any meds although I am still open to try something in the future.

My son is on adderall after really bad reactions to Focalin XR. He is on 5 mg in the morning and 2.5 mg in the afternoon. We gave him a short break over the last month and just restarted the meds. He is terrible. He is highly agitated and kicks and screams. I am at my wits end. Without the meds he is as sweet as pie but cannot sit still or focus on anything. He cannot floow simple directions and is impossible at an entire day of school. With the meds he can focus but he is so hateful. It is really hard to see Tyler like this.Sounds like the Adderall may not be the right med choice either. He shouldnt be this way. Your goal is to see symptom relief with minimal to no side effects. I'd call the doctor. Don't settle, there are so many options out there. Hang in there, I've been there and the med road is long and frustrating for some.So sorry aobu the caps and yes he goes to a new doctor on Sept 12 cannot wait!My son couldn't handle Adderall XR at all. He had a horrible psychotic episode at school and it continued in front of his pediatrician. He was immediately taken off the drug.
Our pediatrician sent us to a psychopharmacologist, who started him on concerta. It is better for our son, but remember, everyone is different. What works for one may not work for others. Some people are very successful with adderall, however, my son is not one of them.
Concerta has been wonderful for our son. He has been taking it for the past 3 years and just recently had a mg. increase after being on the same dose for over 2 1/2 years!
Obviously you need to stop the adderall and call his doctor ASAP!
There is a medication out there for your son, you just have to keep trying, and take the time to get the mg's right. It took us almost 6 months to level off at the "just right" doseage. And it was worth it for 2 1/2 years!
Yes, it means Adderall is not the right med for him, and a change is probably needed. What does his Psychiatrist say about it? I would consult the Psych about the meds instead of the ped.
His reaction to the meds is a bit more than rebound, and I would not give it to him again until the Diagnosing Psychiatrist is contacted.
edbson39305.6474421296I also would not give it again and contact the psychiatrist. Keep trying not all meds are the same, unfortunately the only way to know what will work is to try.
Good luck, hang in, the med road is long and frustrating.
Hello,
My 5 1/2 year son was recently diagnosed w/ ad/hd. I gave him 5mg of addreall 2 days. The 1st day he cried, wouldn't listen at all still jumping around unable to sit still. The 2nd day he had a complete melt down. I have never seen my child act this way. He was telling me he never wanted to see me again that he wanted to run away and that he needed to go live with the bad people because he is bad. He also said that he felt like he was going to explode. I was completely terrified. I gave him 5mg at 9:45am he did not go to sleep until 11:45pm. His pedatrician said I did not have to give it to him today if I was concerened and I thought it wasn't helping, I choose not to. This was the worst behavior I have ever seen from him and this went on for 30-45 minutes about 2 hours after I gave it to him. I did not see additional focusing nor was he less hyper, he did talk more though. Has this ever happed to anyone else w/ their child? Thanks Lora
The same thing happened to my son so much so we had to take him to the hospital. The adderal may not be the right drug for him. Dylan is now on Vyvanse, and is doing great! Good luck and Pm me anytime!
