"Fast acting" stimulants? Our psychiatrist started him on short-acting (4 hour) MPH 2.5 mg, then to 5 mg, then to 10 mg. As the dose increased, he was able to better manage his behavior--until we got to 10 mg short acting. Then the behavior was actually worse than off mph completely. Concerta, 18 mg was too much for him as well. You might want to ask your doctor if you can try low doses of short-acting first to make sure that MPH is the right drug. I thought I was supposed to see an immediate result but I sure haven't. I went ahead and gave it to him today again. I don't know what to do next. I'm just confused, upset and frustrated. I know this is trial and error but man do we need some relief. Anybody else have any advice on this? I only have two weeks till school starts so I'm kind of desperate to find something to help us before then. So if I need to notify the dr, I'd like to do it soon. Thanks, sorry for all the questions. I would give it a week, "immediate" does not always mean "within 2 minutes". Honestly, if you sit back and relax you probably will see changes in a day or two. If you have 2 weks before school starts. chances are you will still be titrating then, so just relax, it'll happen, eventually.
