"Fast acting" stimulants? | ADHD Information

I thought I was supposed to see an immediate result but I sure haven't.  I went ahead and gave it to him today again.  I don't know what to do next.  I'm just confused, upset and frustrated.  I know this is trial and error but man do we need some relief.Anybody else have any advice on this?  I only have two weeks till school starts so I'm kind of desperate to find something to help us before then.  So if I need to notify the dr, I'd like to do it soon.  Thanks, sorry for all the questions.  I was advised by my son's psychiatrist that we would probably see an effect immediately, if it would work at all--20% of ADDers do not respond to mph (which is the base drug used in Concerta).

Our psychiatrist started him on short-acting (4 hour) MPH 2.5 mg, then to 5 mg, then to 10 mg.  As the dose increased, he was able to better manage his behavior--until we got to 10 mg short acting.  Then the behavior was actually worse than off mph completely.  Concerta, 18 mg was too much for him as well.

You might want to ask your doctor if you can try low doses of short-acting first to make sure that MPH is the right drug.
*sigh*  I thought stimulants were supposed to show some pretty immediate results.  Well, I know today is only the first day of concerta for my son but there has been NO change whatsoever.  I don't want to get discouraged but he is just as hyper as ever.  How long am I supposed to give the beginning dosage before i wonder if it needs to try to be upped or something else tried?  I don't mean to seem impatient, I've just been waiting for some relief for so many years and this was supposed to give me some light at the end of the tunnel and well, all I see is darkness.  Am I supposed to give a stimulant time to build up in the system?I would give it a week, "immediate" does not always mean "within 2 minutes". Honestly, if you sit back and relax you probably will see changes in a day or two. If you have 2 weks before school starts. chances are you will still be titrating then, so just relax, it'll happen, eventually.
