Well, today was our first day with Addreall XR.
My daughter started on Concerta 15 mg in 3/06, it was torture getting her to take a pill!! It would take her 10 minutes to swallow the darn thing. Then I found the Daytrana patch. LOVED IT!! Just stick and go, teh 2 downsides were the itchy red mark and the price. 0 per month!! So we went to the doctor yesterday and explained the problem and she prescribed Addreall XR 15mg. She said we could sprinkle it in sone applesauce or pudding. Since my daughter doesn't like either one she suggested ice cream. So with a little hesitation down it went this morning. I opened the capsule and sprinkled it on the ice cream. I guess the side effects are pretty much the same. My friend used it for a while on her son but the loss of appetite was to much for him. He hardly ever ate!!
Does anyone have any feedback?? I hate chnging this medicine all the time, I feel like she is a guinea pig!!
I'm 34 and I took it for a while. One thing to pay attention to is your
I take the XR and like it a lot. Hopefully it will work well with your daughter. If not, there's other options. You say you hate changing the meds all the time...unfortunately, monitoring effectivenss and adjustments or changes "go with the territory" with adhd! Try not to share these feelings with your daughter as I'm sure she's sensitive to all the fuss 'n all that goes with this anyway.... At least you know the patch works, and it's something you can go back to if other meds fail!
I'm a 21 year old college student and have been switched to Adderall XR 30mg. I used to be on Concerta 54mg. I love the Adderall XR because I didn't feel like there are so many highs and lows throughout my day. It is a constant steady flow to my body, whereas the Concerta would peak about every 2 hours and I could feel it tapering off dramatically. I am suffering from loss of appetite (but I've only been on the Adderall XR for 4 days now) and I have to force my self to eat at least a little bit during the day and eat mostly at night. I'm hopeing that it will eventually go away.My 9 yr old son has been taking Adderall XR for more than two years. He started on 10mg but has been taking 25mg for all but the first 4 mo or so. It was the 4th med his ped tried for him. I can't remember what he took first. We did Metadate CR for a little less than a year till he progressed to taking 3 20mg pills a day and he overloaded. We tried Strattera for about a week after that and then we hit the Adderall. It's the best out of all the others we tried. Like you, we had to "invent" new ways to get him to take it. I found it difficult because the pellets inside the capsule don't melt at all. I tried putting it in twinkies and cupcakes and anything else you could think of. I don't know how but by the time he was 6, I had him swallowing them. Now, he takes it at 6:30am religiously and it doesn't taper till the end of the school day. (Just in time to get him in trouble on the bus
) But overall, other than appetite decrease for the first few hrs after taking the pill, the only problem we've run into has been recently (after 2+ yrs) and that's insomnia. Which means.....you guessed it, possibly another med change. Like someone said above, it comes with the (ADHD) territory. If the adderall doesn't work....don't worry. The right med WILL happen for your daughter. And if you don't seem concerned about all the med changes around her it probably won't bother her at all. Both my kids are on adderall Xr and it works good for them. The did both experience loss of appetite at first but it did subside. My oldest has tryed a lot of stimulants including the patch but we keep coming back to adderall b/c it really gives her the best results.
Good luck!
