Our son was diagnosed with ADHD at age 6. Stimulants did not work and we used Desipramine with some good results. After a while he needed a higher dose of Desipramine i order to show any positive results. 15 days ago his blood tests came back that his level was almost toxic. He went from 75mg a day to 25mg to nothing in a period of 5 days. For the last 10 days he has not had any Desiprimine. Yesterday he started crying uncontrollably for a long time and had very high anxiety. Today much of the same with lots of sleeping. Can anyone tell me about Desipramine withdrawal???
Symptoms incluse, anxiety, aggression,. balance issues, depression etc. You are aware that it is not recommended in children.
We also use Desipramine. We've used Nortryptiline in the past also. Both with success. I think he was ramped down too quickly, but was he fine then started the crying? If so it was not probably the withdrawal.
What is your next plan? Just curious. My daughter is taking 100mg per day, but could probably use more. We see the doc in a couple of weeks, not sure how much higher we can go before toxic levels, so we'll see.
