The time is here!

And it is a time that some parents dread.  What is everyone doing to prepare your AD/HD child/ren for the new school year?

Every idea helps!!

I am nervous for my son to start school this year.  I had him in private kindergarten last year and this year he will be entering public kinder.  Over the summer we've had many meltdowns and are trying to get his meds worked out before school starts - in 1 week!  Yikes.  I am sure that he'll make friends but I am concerned about his low tolerance level for frustration.  His last teacher was so great in that she really worked with him when she saw he was becoming frustrated or if he had a meltdown, she was able to help him get calm (at least most of the time).  I am just worried about his behaviour in a room full of 20+ kids.  It won't be tolerated I know.  I just don't want to worry everyday for him if today was a good day for him or not.  Please give me some encouragement that it will be a good school year!!

I have been bolstering my son for weeks about starting first grade, he is in class with 1 or 2 of his kindergarten friends which made him feel better.  I also met his teacher ahead of time, told her that we are having a 504 plan meeting next week, told her to observe him the first week, and told my son to be on his best behavior since now, he was in big kids school and he needed to act correctly.

He went off with a smile.  Only concern was that he told me he was afraid to make an F on a test.  I assured him that there were no tests on 1st grade until he could read. lol

I am going to try to get a few playdates with some of the kids in his class ( I would be happy with 3 different kids)  My son spends most of his day in a special ed class and is in the mainstream class only for specials (gym, music, art ect.)  He needs help with the reading but is on grade level for math and everything else.  It is hard for him to make friends with the kids because he spends so much time in special ed. class where kids are grade 3-5 (He is in grade 3)
