Splitting Strattera doses/ Adderall XR? | ADHD Information

My doctor just mentioned possibly trying this since 80 just knocks me too much and 40 doesn't seem enough. We are trying 60 for a few weeks to see how that goes.

Since I have read that some of you are splitting the dose 40+40 I wondered how it that is working out for you? compared to 60 or 80? Also I read 2 different posts that say they are taking morning and night? I *thought*, but could be wrong, that she mentioned taking the second dose 4 hours later? does that seem right? I will see her again in 3 weeks.

Now those of you taking Adderall XR do you find that if you are running too fast it calms you down BUT if you wake up really tired it helps to wake you up? or does it make you more tired???  There are rare occassions that I can't wake up in the morning and I need some caffiene with Strattera. I wondered since Adderall is  a stimulant and does the opposite, that if you were tired it would help you and NOT make you more tired?

Thanks guys!

I don't use adderal so I can't help you there.

I split my strattera dose--40mg in the morning and 40mg at dinner and it works really well for me. The ramping up really sucked but after a couple of weeks it worked well.

When I ramped I only had 40mg pills so what I did was take the dinner pill. The next day if I felt "stoned" I only took the morning pill. If I felt normal I took the dinner pill. I did this until about two weeks later I had taken the dinner pill for four days running and realized I was okay on the 80mg dose every day.

That's how I managed it. I don't know what happens if you take adderal with it...

Thanks.

I would NOT be taking Adderall with it, either or.....

I had to laugh when I read your *stoned* feeling cause that is how I have felt when first starting on Strattera, especially years back when I first got on it. I HATE the feeling but it does work for focus.  Thanks for the ramping explaination, that sounds like something I would do. Not everyday is the same, somedays I am more hyper than others and on days I am tired already it can wiped me more and I have used caffiene for a pick me up. Usually I am hyper but now with hormones changing (ugh) I tend to be more tired or anxious.

When I was not on Strattera, most days I was hyper and could not focus til around 2pm for some reason, but on days I was tired I focused better.

So did the 60 mg not work for you? at least I am ramping up slowly if we go 40/40, the 80 straight was too much tiredness.

I only had 40mg pills so 60 wasn't even an option. At first the 80 made me feel like I was living in a wind tunnel. That's why I ramped some days, and dropped some days for a few weeks. If I didn't feel like I was wearing a sock over my head then I took the dinner pill. Eventually I was doing 80mg every day. I'm still kinda hyper but not in such an unfocussed way. I can get bits done on "runs" which was always my way, anyway. I can do more in 20 minutes than a normie can do in an hour

Splitting for me seems to help. I sleep like a brick, too
I took the stuff for about two or three weeks.  I started experiencing some of the side effects you'll read about, including the first, third, and fourth of these: (pulled from wikipedia): "A significant minority of adult male patients taking Strattera suffer minor to severe sexual side effects, including erectile dysfunction, retrograde ejaculation, painful orgasm, and the decoupling of orgasm from ejaculation, wherein ejaculation takes place up to ten seconds before or after orgasm."

That was on top of causing me depression, major nausea, and drowsiness.  Watch out for these.
I wound up 4 months later getting agressive on it and had to stop. Too bad--it really did make me feel good in the mornings *sigh*
