Hello everyone,
I thought I would let everyone know what has been working for my son. He just turned 9 and has adhd. When we started stims. it made his tics worse and he didnt want to eat and geting him to bed was a nightmare. He would also have terrible rebound in morning and at night. The Psychiatrist started him a 5 mg zyprexia then moved him to 10mg ( for eating and sleeping and anger) That pill was amazing for improving sleep and weight gain. He gained 5lbs over the summer. He also sees a clinical pshychologist.
Then his tics returned and the doctor reduced the zyprexa back to 5mg and added Abilify 5mg ( Dr. said abilfy control tics much better than tenex)The tics have subsided and he still eats pretty good and still sleeps wonderful. He is asleep by 9:15pm. I never thought I would see the day. He also has not had the crazy meltdowns. He takes 30mg of vyvance that he started a week ago. He did have stomach aches the first few days, but that has stopped.
Hopefully this school year will go well. This is the first year he will be on meds. He was never hyper in school really. It was more of not being able to follow along and listening and talking too much.
He truly is so much better with his sister. He used to love to annoy her to no end. She is 5. He has made a new friend and they have been getting along wonderful. He has had 3 sleepovers and no issues. He is not perfect mind you, but thats not what we are looking for. I just wanted a normal child. It was really sad before the meds. Every time he would turn around someone was mad at him for doing this or that. He could get so angry and sad. It would wear the whole family out.
He does have a monthly blood test to check his sugar because of the Zyprexa. It had caused diabetes in some adults. So far everything is fine and the Dr. has not seen this side effed in his practice so far.
Take care everyone. I know school starting is such a stressful time for all of us. My son started yesterday. So far so good.

Hi,
I was just wondering if your child takes any of his meds in the evening and if he does how do you give it to him on sleepover nights?? Thanks.
Hello,
The zyprexa is given to him around 7:00pm. I do not take him until I give it to him. His friend lives down the street, so it is easy for me to say I am going to have him shower, eat, ect. and then he comes down. The other two meds are given in the morning when he gets home.
If your not comfortable talking to the parents, you can tell them it is allergy medicine, just send one pill in a ziplock or something and call and check that they gave it to them.
