Disposing of ’extra’ meds? | ADHD Information

How do you do this? I have two things of Adderall XR in two different strengths, as well as a box and a half of Daytrana that I dont know what to do with. Obviously I dont want it lying around the house with two small kids, but I am scared to just throw it away for fear of who would find it, kwim? Is there any 'good' way to dispose of these extra, unused ADHD meds? TIA.

I usually flush extra meds, but in your case i would flush the Adderall, and keep the Daytrana. You may need to use it while ramping the strat. My son's dr. asked that we give her the unused med's.  Quite responsible of the doc.You should never flush meds down the toilet.  They eventually get into the water supply.  I just take them back to the phamacy and they dispose of them.

ummmm well the water supply is treated before drinking...cause of what else goes into the toliet. But we have either flushed ours or givin it to the Dr to dispose of.

Daytrana states clearly that they should be flushed after use. Why not flush extra meds, that's what my pharmacy does with them anyways.
