Concerta and headache | ADHD Information
Oh yes I have the same problems with the eating before the meds. I even go as far as to feed him myself to make sure he gets enough food in his belly before he takes the pill. I have this ongoing problem with his father about giving hi food before pill. His dad doesn't seem to think he has to eat at all when he is at his house. I find that he throws up after he has been at his dads because he doesn't have enough food all weekend. I am to the point where I don't want to send him over there because I know what is going to happen. I have made progress however. Isaiah has gained 5 pounds in the last two months and I now have to go buy all new pants... Yea!!! The feeding him myself rather than letting him do it on his own must be working!! I am so happy!I agree with what has been said, my son just turned 10 if he doesnt eat a good meal before his medicine he gets a migraine and throws up....it has happened when he has stayed at other peoples houses and they give him the med before he eats. even if he eats on top of it for some reason it still happensAt one time the doctor told me to try Carnation instant breakfast or something along that line, so at least they are taking in calories. You might try that. Someone else told me milk shakes. My son did not start really gaining weight until the past 6 month. He grew 4-5 inches and gained about 20-30 pounds. He's 12 and it seems like we were stuck at 75-77 pounds forever! Then he just started sprouting up. Hang in there!I have a question to anyone that can answer it. I have a 7 year old son on Concerta. His dose is 36 mg in the morning. Some days he does fine and then there are the days that he seems to be out of control! When those days come he gets a real bad headache and throws up several times as the headache is going away. This is causeing me problems with his school thinking that he is sick all the time with the flu. Is there any other parents out there having the same problem? If there are some of you that have had this problem and have fixed it~~ how do i fix it?? The doctor has changed his dose to 27 mg in the morning and 18 mg at 1:00 in the afternoon but I haven't started him on that yet. Thanks for the help in advance..MelissaMy son sometimes doesn't want to eat all day and it isn't just one day it is like 5 or 6 in a row that he isn't hungry. I have to make him eat. I feel very bad for sitting there and taking his spoon or fork and physically making him eat but what can you do if the child is 7 and only weighs 56 pounds? We never take Isaiah off the meds not even in the summer. I feel like it takes too long for him to get used to it again. I don't like to put him through it if I don't have to. Thanks for writing me back............Melissa
During last school year my son complained of headaches alot on the Concerta. He was off of it all summer and just started again a couple of weeks ago. I made him start eating a decent size breakfast before taking the medicine and so far no headaches. Before he wouldn't eat breakfast and the Concerta makes his appetite go away so he's not hungry for lunch. There was some days he wasn't eating all day until supper time. I think that had something to do with his headaches. Also i took him to the eye doctor to get his eyes checked and he did need glasses so... I have noticed on the Concerta he is very emotional, cries at the drop of a hat some night. He is 12.
