What to try after Ritalin? | ADHD Information

Thanks for all the replies! I am not having a problem with the stimulants...it's just the specific side effects of Ritalin.. feeling dizzy, breaking out, and I always get a boost of energy from it then crash hard shortly after.

I have also tried Straterra and that didn't work at all. What is the difference between Ritlalin and Adderall?
It sort of depends on why you're switching. There are many others in the methyphedinate family, or if you switch categories altogether, theres Dexedrine, Adderrall and Vyvanse.most adults get put on either dexedrine or stratterra - depending on what kind of psych/doctor you have.  If your doctor is concerned with stimulants they usually prescribe stratterra first.

Dexedrine is probably the mildest of the stimulants on the body - it has less side effects and is easiest tolerated.  I've been on it now for about 3 years with very favorable results and few problems.

Remember also that most stim meds take about 3 months to 6 months to stabilize and then the side effects usually decrease or disappear.  Usually it takes a low dose and climbing to a suitable regular dose to find out where you fit in.

Be very sure to stay in touch with your doctor/psychiatrist (they are supposed to give a full evaluation EVERY time they prescribe stims - it's the law).

My doctor and I had fainlly began to discuss trying a new med. I have been
on Ritalin for about 3 months but I having side effects that aren't working
