success storiesMy son is newly diagnosed with ADHD inattentive type. He is nine and his primary difficulty is underperformance at school. We have tried one month with Adderall and are seeing the doctor today for a recheck. We will need to try something different due to increased sensitivity/crying that is very unusual for him. It appears to be when it is wearing off. Anyway - I was hoping to hear from some people who have successfully treated themselves or their children. Can anyone share your success, including what med or natural products you use? My son was put on 10 mg of Adderall XR - and we never increased that due to side effects. Today we started on 18 mg of Concerta. It is too early to really notice a difference but he had a really good day at school and was in a good mood all day. The emotional meltdowns in the afternoon in response to really little things were what made us swith from Adderall. The doctor said the next thing to try might be Vyvanse. Wish us luck. I worry so much about his self esteem. I think he feels everyone does eveything better then he does. And tests show he has exceptional intelligence and academic skills. He just can't live up to his potential. You all know that story, I'm sure. Thanks for all the help Good luck with new med. Adderall has that effect on lots of kids. Emotional lability and/or increased anxiety. It ws one the reasons we stopped it. There;s now ay to know until you try it though. Many people have GREAT success with Adderall.DD has been using Daytrana , and it has helped tremendouly. Not all meds will work for all kids, it is trial and error. How much Adderall is he on? Is it XR? Has it been the same type and dosage for a whole month? My son just started Adderall XR about 2 1/2 weeks ago...since then we went from 5 mgs, to 10 and are now at 15. I can't say for sure that we have found the right dosage for him yet but I can tell you that in the very beginning, he had no appetite and couldn't fall asleep at night. That has since passed. In addition, for a short time in the middle of the 2 1/2 weeks, he would cry around 3:30 each day (maybe when it was wearing off???) which is very unusual for him, but that has stopped also. It might be that the doc needs to find the right dosage for him. Good luck...we are still working on that. My youngest has done remarkably on meds. She has gone from Ds and Fs to As and Bs and she now participates in school and can better make and keep friends. My oldest has inattentive ADHD and feels that the meds help her "hear the teacher better". She was losing her work and very disorganized. She got straight As last trimester and is really happy with the meds. My husband (who was totally angainst meds) is starting to wonder if meds might be helpful to him. My son is 7 and is on Adderall. We have seen success in schools and in sports from the medication. We still have a few rough days but overall we are happy with the medication. |
