Daytrana and anxiety/tics | ADHD Information

Hi everyone

I know lots of us have seen issues with meds and increased anxiety and tics. How about the Daytrana users out there. We've never used Daytrana, but most stims increase my daughters anxiety and most cause tics. We saw doc today and he thinks, if we have to, it may be worth trying the Daytrana it potentially could have less chance of the tics. Our options (if what we're doing doesnt work) is first try Straterra then maybe Daytrana, but I'm VERY, VERY hesitant to attempt another stimulant in any way shape or form. Would love any input, if anyone has it.

I feel better moving forward that we now have a couple of options that may work. Thanks for the feedback. There's always some one in the same boat.DD actually has had appetite increase on all meds( go figure) she tends towards chunky already so it is not a good thing. The appetite on Daytrana is good, we see no changes really. Really? That is very interesting. And encouraging! She had tics on Straterra? How's her appetite on the Daytrana? Oh if the meds are giving my daughter tics they start literally that day and then just get worse and worse until we go off the med. So for sure she's fine after two years. We've never taken anything for 2 years. No, no tics. DD had tics on Everything else( Strat, metadate, concerta, wellbutrin, Tenex, the list goes on) but no Tics on Daytrana. She has been using it for over 2 years so I think she would have developed them by now if she was going to. Daytrana works for our ds. He has anxiety to begin with and any stimulant
(inc. Daytrana) increases it. He is on Zoloft for the anxiety. No tics at all. It
was never an issue. The patch goes on the hip. It dries out the skin a little,
but shouldn't be a problem. I use baby oil after he takes it off to get the
excess adhesive off his skin. You have to switch hips each day to avoid
irritation from putting it on the same spot. It would be easier for you to try
Daytrana before Strattera I would think. Daytrana can be stopped at any
time. With Stratterra, I believe it has to build up in the system and slowly
lowered to get off of it. Ask your doctor, I could be wrong.Strat does have to be ramped, and takes 6-8 weeks to start working. It can be stopped cold turkey though. Wish you much luck , I look to you for good advice, it is always worth the read!

Well the Desipramine isnt doing it. Finally got her symptom relief, but the levels are too high, so we have to come off it..............of course

So..........we're going to give Daytrana a try.................wish me luck...............

I wish you so much lucky. Your daughter's side effects are so similar to my
son's. If Daytrana works for you, I will again ask my doctor to try it.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

spamula, we are going to try Strattera if our current path doesnt work out. We are using a tricyclic antidepressant right now, Desipramine. She is actually the best she's been on this med, has gained weight, no tics, anxiety is down, fidgeting is WAY down. Focus is ok for home, but may not make it for school, that is why we may change. Our last visit with the doctor we made a plan A change and plan B change. If our upped dose of Desipramine doesnt do it, we try Strattera, then if that doesnt work we try Daytrana. My biggest worry abour Strattera is it'll be too sedating, which I am seeing with the higher Desipramine dose. It seems to ALWAYS be something. It works well..............but..............always that but, even my daughter is like why cant I just take a pill that helps me pay attention and not "bounce around" without making me fall asleep................I wish I could answer that for her.

I also am interested in other options due to tics, but I am concerned about skin irritations from the patch as band-aides can be a problem if left on too long. I also find it interesting that the daytrana would have less chance of causing tics. I have also heard elsewhere that Strattera can cause tics. Well all just more info to process. Thanks gals.edbson--
How about skin irritation with the patch? My son's dr. is reluctant to
prescribe because he said his bottom would be "raw" from the irritation.
