Focalin XR and motor tics | ADHD Information

My seven year old son started Focalin XR in June 07 and was titrated to 10mg.  He started having a facial tic at the end of July (he says he is popping his ears).  It has increased in frequency.  We are in the middle of a clinical trial at UCLA.  If I recommend a dose decrease, will the tic go away? or will I have to take him completely off the med.  He is doing awesome at school so far this year.  The tic doesn't seem to bother him, but it bothers me more and more.it may or may not go away with a med decrease (IMO it wont go away), it will most likely, however, go away off the med. My daughter has had tics off and on with different meds for years. Decreasing the dose never made them "stop". It may be worth trying a different med. If it's a minor tic and he doesnt care, you may not even want to switch him. That's your decision. We ended up stopping stimulants altogether because of tics. You're in a clinical trial so I'm not sure how that all works. My 9 year old was started on FocalinXR about 1.5 weeks ago so far so good. I am afraid to titrate up to the 10mg because of the tic issue. We have 2 weeks to go before we see the doc to discuss progress. So far it has been great in school and no other side effects other than sleep problems(which we already had). Hope all works out for you.
